Bonnie and I went to five different stores trying to get mom's shopping done.
Seems rubbing alcohol, tylenol, vitamin c are as scarce as toilet paper that we
found nowhere

Fortunately she is good thru the month on that score as every week I buy a 6 or 8 pack of TP (this is well before covid)

After stopping at the last store which was near the house I said lets drop off the eggs, whipping cream and cored pineapple at home

GOOD THING too

Opening the basement door was like a rain forest  F Me I knew it had to be either a busted hot water pipe or the water heater which is one of those that has a fan venting outside because there is no flue pipe.  When we went and added a top floor  20 some odd years ago we got a 95% gas furnace that didnt need a chimney and went with the ducted hot water heater (a mistake in retrospect)

There was an inch of water on the ground near the unit.  I remembered I had Unplugged the sump pump when I was running an extension cord to do work on the opposite side of the basement and did not plug it in when finished.  Note to self  DO NOT DO THAT AGAIN UNTIL NEXT TIME

I did that right away, turned off the water going into the heater and the emergency power shut off for the whole furnace area.

No idea how long it was running wild maybe since last night.

Threw out the carpet pieces that got wet and a bunch of ceiling tiles I had stacked.

Everything else I keep a few inches off the ground fortunately

Then I rode across the river to drop off her groceries, doubled back to the Bronx to pick up some files and went back home.

Will call the furnace company in the morning, let the men enjoy their Easter with family then I will take a nice cold shower  Undecided Undecided Undecided later

Hope your Easter is less eventful  maybe even a ride or two took place ?

Nope, big rain here today... the actual kind, not the kind alluded
to in your post's subject line... I hope you have a better day
tomorrow...

Boy Oss that stinks big time, I hope nothing was ruined. Hopefully the fix is simple and a few days with a dehumidifier running will help dry things out in the basement.

Hey thanks Mike, that rain and wind are here

Daughter just called lightning hit a tree and it fell onto the neighbor's house, but did not penetrate the roof

Thank goodness it is above freezing this would have been a very very nasty blizzard

Oss

Water heater guy coming this afternoon, we will see if we can get one installed today or time for a cold shower again

We're getting slammed here big big winds and lots of sideways driving rain. No thunder yet. Haven't checked the news for power outages.

Good luck up there, stay safe. Hope you get a hot shower tonight, it stinks being trapped at home but no hot water makes it rustic.

could be worse from what I gather the hot water heater tank leaks water out on the floor.  Just be glad it was just that and not like my house if I unplug my sump pump and forget to turn it on or it dies not running,  I have 3-4 inches of standing water all over my basement floor 24x46 feet full basement.

been there, done that.  When it rains say 2-3 inches in one day,  my sump pump runs continously every 20 seconds all day long.  I live in low lying area next to a swampy area about 75 yards away from my house, not good, a sump pump is a MUST in entire village.

It took me 2 full days and then some to toss out everything on the floor back in the 1990s when my 1st sump pump failed builder put in a tiny 1/3hp motor needing a lifetime 1/2 hp motor and better quality sump pump, darn cheap builders.    I have 2 backup sump pumps since have gone thru 3 heavy duty ones in 25 plus years now, NONE last a lifetime with that much use burning out the motor, etc.    now with my basement crambed full of crap all over vs. not much in 1996 or so when last flooded,  I can only imagine the misery I would have now cleaning up and tossing stuff away.
