Two different numbers for front:      06455-mv4-405 (X2)     06455-mz0-760 (X2)

Two different numbers for rear:       06435-mz0-006 (X1)     06435-mz0-760 (1)

Does anybody know why?    It doesn't say anywhere that one part# replaces the other one.
Are these brake pads the same or not?
I have a 2003 Valkyrie CD Deluxe (Standard)

Cal:

I can't say for certain WHY two OEM part numbers exist for each (for a given year/model), but my experience has been it doesn't matter which one you use - they're virtually identical products.  I've always just ordered the first that's listed as being "in stock."

There may be particular parts where the varying part numbers reflect a substantive difference - but I'm unaware of what these might be.

This is based on my subjective experience only - I could be wrong; others can chime in.

Same part number for all models 98'-03' for the front but the rear can't say as I haven't had to change them out yet. Check EBay for better price. Bought a set (both disc) OEM for $50 with free shipping vs $85 from Partzilla + $8.00 shipping.

06455-MV4-405 is a replacement for 06455-MZ0-760 (and 06435-MZ0-006 replaces 06435-MZ0-760). Also note that the rear pads are the same as the front, with slightly thicker linings on the rear.

The rear pads also have a stainless steel backing plate to handle the added heat/braking pressure.  The front pads do not have these.  See the following thread:

I don't know if new OEM rear pads come with fresh backing plates or not.  My understanding is that you reuse them when changing out the pads.

My experience has been when there are 2 numbers, one is the superseded part number and the other is the original number.
