Owners or Service manual?

To the best of my knowledge only the lighting is replaceable.

I would check the service manual.

PDF and a hard copy. Nothing like having both.

Are you certain the light is out? Could it be the sender?

I just had my cluster out because I wanted to replace the idiot light and turn signal bulbs with brighter leds...that's when i discovered that the bulbs are soldered in to the circuit board...there are 4 replaceable bulbs in the cluster but they are for instrument back lighting.  you can verify a blown bulb by pulling the connector off the temp switch and putting it direct to ground with the ignition switch in the on position...hope this helps

The older ones may have lit the LED for a sec or 2 at startup, but I've read a number of threads where that particular lamp does not light.  It does not light on my 98 tourer at startup.  I know it works, as it will flicker on occasion at a stoplight when its 115* outside.
