I've been to Cummings Ga. It makes me laugh when I see the sign.
What do ya'll think the strangest city name in ya'lls' states are? Dirty Ankle, NC is probably my fav odd city name from NC. I've seen lists of odd town names and Dirty Ankle has made the list before. Real place, right across the NC/SC line.
What odd named towns do ya'll states have?

This exit sign is on US 220 just south of Greensboro, NC. Climax and High Point are two seperate towns. But everytime I see this sign I have to laugh, Because afterall aren't Climax and High Point the same thing?

Booger Hollow, Chigger Hollow, Hog Scald Hollow, Little Flock, Cow Lake, Possum Trot, Toad Suck, Y City, Pencil Bluff, and Snowball, Arkansas. But, the neatest place I've stopped is Lum and Abner's Museum.

These are in Iowa, some might sound funny, but they are all under 500 population.
Beaver, Balltown, Buck Grove, Center Junction (no Junction close), Cleghorn, Coin, Deep River, Fertile, Frytown, Joetown, to name a few.

Oil Trough, Arkansas The town is believed to have acquired its name in the early 1800s from a trough used to render bear fat, which was sold to customers in New Orleans.

In Saskatchewan we have Climax, Biggar ,Moose Jaw, Elbow, Oxbow, Big Beaver. My favorite town names are those that are people names- like Frank and Charles BC. I always wondered if the train conductors decided on the name of the town when the railroad first passed through- Conductor: What's the name of the coal pusher? Engineer- It's frank. Hey Frank want a town named after ya? Frank- That'd be good. Conductor: Well welcome to Frank

North of Ann Arbor and just south of Pinkney. One of the nations biggest biker destinations for a day ride. Not much there but the "Damn Site Inn", "Screams" ice cream parlor, the General Store/Deli/Post Office. A bit out of town there is the "Hell Creek Ranch", the home of the Scorpions M/C. Hell is famous for several Bike Blessings each year and a destination for several charity rides. And for about 8 or 9 years there was an ABATE rally held in thecenter of town.

Conductors naming towns? Garibaldi NC was a town with a train station and the town was called Garibaldi's Crossing after the drunk that ran the station. The monastery had it changed to Belmont because they didn't like the association. Belmont means beautiful mountain, must have been about the view.

Used to work for Xcel Energy here in the Texas Panhandle. Here is the way I traveled to Plant X. Leave Amarillo and head to Canyon. Watch the sun rise in my rearview mirror as I pass through Dawn. At Hereford I turn south and head to the community of Easter. After passing through Earth, it is just a few more miles till I turn left into Plant X yard.
Don't think engineers have a sense of humor? After reviewing several parcels of land the company owned, they finaly decided on a site. Where? asked the owner. And another marked an X on the map. After several discussions of what to name it, they just decided to name it later and just call it Plant X. The design team took the name and built the cooling tower in the shape of an X. The original cooling towers were blown down in a tornado, but the shape of an X can still be seen in Google Earth.

The name of the town is "Cumming"
We also have a Climax here in Georgia. It is at the highest point between Savannah and Dothan (I think). It was named by the railroad and I wouldn't guess the elevation to be more than 300 feet.
We also have some interesting road names; "Hardup" and "Lonesome" intersect just south of Albany.

I think the town of tensleeps is cool. It took some Indians ten sleeps to get to this location. So when a town was founded there they named it tensleeps.
