which brand(s) have you had good luck with?  Those who'll only buy OEM, why?  my oems are down to like 3.5 mil.   Time (ok past time) to replace them with now near 90k on them.  I replaced the rear rotor a couple years ago with the EBC brand which seems to be doing okay.

Sometime ago, I remember reading on here that more recent (but maybe not the brand new) Gold Wing front rotors would fit.  They were thinner than, but still rated for the same life as Valk OE rotors.  They were apparently a good deal cheaper than OE rotors, but I do not know if that's still true.

Can't speak to aftermarket, other than I remember reading if you get EBC (or other) rotors, you should use their pads too.

Just recollections.

I'm looking for a set of front rotors with black carriers for a project. What's out there?

I had the same problem with OEM pads gouging the rotors. Went with GW fronts and aftermarket kevlar  pads. These pad stop better, are less money, and shine the rotors to look like chrome.  Win Win.

Pretty funny cuz I started that thread last summer. I was at the time thinking about buying a front wheel off a guys Interstate that had good rotors but it didn't work out so now I'm stuck buying just rotors. And as I said I'm overdue. I think Goldwing rotors are actually thinner than valk rotors even though they work okay. I seem to recall that somewhere.

Haha. I didn't even notice that it was your thread. LOL I just remembered that Goldwing and VFR rotors were mentioned somewhere and searched VFR. Well, I hope it refreshed your memory if nothing else  Grin

Going to hijack my own thread here haha does anybody know offhand what a brand new OEM front rotor for a valkyrie measures? Is it like 5.5 mm thick?

Thick? I think it was 7mm. I know the mine thickness is printed, I'm sure that's 4mm.

Gordon, naw, wouldn't be 7mm to start for fronts. I'm thinking fronts start at 5 (or 5.5?) new so you only get 1mm till you're done--that's like .039", not too bad.  Reason I bring it up is I am looking at some used OEMs and want to know where they were when new, as the seller will show me with calipers where they are now.

UPDATE: Okay, I answered my question about the original thickness of front rotors (OEM) by measuring the outside rim of mine, in the area which isn't worn--it's exactly 5mm.

Wow, I was sure of that. Maybe the rear?

Checked out ebay. They like listing the thickness. All used.
Front
Valk 4mm min, thickness 4.7mm, so 5mm looks reasonable.
GW 5mm min, thickness 5.53, so looks like 6mm.

Rear
Valk 5mm min, thickness was 7.5, was it measured wrong?
GW no min seen, but I found one at 6.5mm thick.
