Pingel leaking - quick question - FIxed
«

Folks:
I've swapped fuel tanks and have a small leak at the Pingel petcock (not sure where yet). I will pull the tank and check it out tomorrow. A couple of quick questions - I'm reading online to use 3 wraps of thread tape before installing the valve, Is this correct ? Any better suggestions ?
Assume the leak is at the threads but have any of you ever failed the internal o-rings and needed to replace these ?
Thanks in Advance
Lyle

I have the standard OEM petcock on my Interstate and I have had it on and off many times and never had a leak or used any thread sealing tape.

The bung on the Valkyrie tank is not a pipe thread.
No tape is needed.

I had mine off while the tank was being repainted. I don't use thread sealant tape on anything having to do with liquid especially fuel/solvents involved. I reinstalled mine with nothing. The only issue I had was getting the valve "clocked" into position. Over tightening O'rings can cause failure also.

Never used pipe tape either... if the Pingel itself is leaking, send it back and they will repair (or replace) for a really low price. I sent them my old Pingel that was leaking badly due to sitting...they simply sent me a brand new one.

Thanks Everyone, got it sorted out. It isn’t a factory tank and just needed the threads and seats cleaned up a bit better than what I Did on the first install.
Appreciate the good advice
