darn near killed over had a heart attack.  I think I got my first HUGE compliment at work in near 2 years there from the bosses boss who reports to the President of the company who can be an _ss, or so have heard.  The Prez was NOT happy with over 12 million behind on applying payments me working alone in the office vs. having 3 doing it normally all thanks to the Chinese cooties.   My bosses boss who I have had a few HEATED shouting matches with a few times when she accused me of screwing up and never did was system issues, came across rather nice to me over the phone got in the office had email from her to call her first thing in the morning.  Me not afraid of her bullying tactics called her expecting the worst.  She thanked me said she knows I work very hard and pushes thru a TON of work daily but the Prez is not happy (her words were pissed off) with being 12 million in the rear the past 3 week is all with 1/2 staff basically working.  She realizes is not my fault but the Prez's so she authorized me FIRST TIME EVER IN HISTORY OF THAT COMPANY from what fellow employees there 30-35 years is UNLIMITED OVERTIME thru this virus B.S.    I have heard NEVER ONE minute of overtime has been allowed EVER in 35 years from the long timers there.  I must be essential right?  Gee, how about a decent raise for once say to the tune of 4.00 per hour raise as is justified vs. say 3-4 more weeks of misery working overtime hours?

At least now I do NOT feel super stressed working alone having 60-70 hours per day of work only having 40 hours to do it all alone every week in there leaving critical money unapplied just sitting there piling up paperwork day after day after day.  Still, only going to work the weeks I am in there about 5-8 hours overtime per week at time and half.  What is sad is the long time lady 20  years in I replaced (good worker) with me 1 1/2 times pay vs. her regular straight pay is darn near equal which is still a complete slap in my face.   Cry

Lets just say without overtime and other means,  that 12 million behind come June 8th doing what they are doing NOW will turn into 30 million in the rear not done and about 100 hours behind in work vs. now 30 hours or so of past 2 weeks not done.

I did not say much to her on the phone but told her I appreciate her standing up for me and allowing some overtime which I said will help alleviate my stress a little with all that HAS to be done daily in 40 hours is impossible to do with 1 person vs. without the other 2 ladies in.   What I feel bad though is about the other older VERY slow lady in my dept. who does 30% workload daily me 70% her there twice as long as me.  Bosses boss also told me she will be keeping track of what I do daily vs. her setting parameters on what she does vs. what I do and will want DAILY reports and conversations from here on out of what she wants done that day and how long it takes.  I do not want to get my co-worker fired but was told to keep my mouth shut to her since I am allowed unlimited overtime and she will NOT be since is a waste of money paying her overtime for doing not much extra.  She has ONE pace turtle speed but at least she is accurate.  If based upon volume of payments posted me vs. her I am worth near double pay daily but 4-5 bucks more as deserved would be fine with me.

Cookie -
sometimes all you can do is what you are allowed to do, keep your head down, and do what you're told.

Best of luck in this situation.

yah,   good advice I guess I get 2 babysitters at work now telling me what they want me to do.   Roll Eyes

Bosses boss even admitted she has no idea how long some payments takes to process neither my boss or bosses boss ever doing them.    I just laughed when my boss 2 days ago told me to do one thing the rest of the day (which was NOT crucial and piddly money very time consuming) while 5 minutes into that phone conversation her boss emailed both of us telling me to do something else instead so bosses boss trumps my boss..   LOL   2funny     If I was not on the phone with them the past 2 days 4 phone calls them working from home me in the office with total 'chat' time for 1 hour total maybe I would get some actual WORK DONE?      2funny

This reminds me of my first USAF job.

Maxwell AFB was (is) Air University with most all of the officer (and senior enlisted) Air Force schools located there.  Traditionally, it was kind of sleepy hollow with very little trouble or misconduct to deal with.  But during my tour, all kinds of trouble and misconduct and labor disputes and graft/corruption started exploding all over the place, and suddenly our little five man shop was swamped with work (and me and two other Jags were all brand new rookies trying to learn our new profession).

We were all working seven days a week (no overtime), and just treading water.  The boss (Lt Col) was losing his mind, and we were having staff meetings 2-3 times a week, and he'd ask each of us what we were doing and working on.  He'd tell me (us) drop everything you're doing and work on this big fire.  And I'd do that, then two days later he'd say, drop that and work on this other big fire.  And that is just no way to run a rodeo (nothing ever gets finished).  So after about 5 months of that, I volunteered to go to Korea, Turkey or the Philippines.  Since no one volunteers for those, I got an assignment right away..... and so I waved a fond farewell to the crazy house I'd been working in.

When the other two jr captains (but both senior to me) saw what I did, they did the same thing.  Of course this did not reflect well on the boss at all (and he was a pretty good guy, but the poor man badly needed about three months rest in a rubber room with some good medication).

But I suppose there are probably no jobs for you in Korea, Turkey or the Philippines.    Grin

Nope no thanks not going overseas.  Mgmt. deserves what they get for not thinking this pandemic thru on what is ESSENTIAL and NOT asking us workers who actually do the jobs what is needed.  Yah,  I had 4 phone calls in 2 days over 1 hour wasted on phone from boss and bosses boss sitting at HOME me in the OFFICE them telling me what they think needs to get done first like I know what needs to get done first leave me the F alone.  One person vs. 3 is not going to work duh!   uglystupid2

Hook up an answering machine that says:   This is Cookie.  I'm here at work by myself, like I am every day, but I'm not answering the phone because people keep calling and wasting my time.  If you think you have an important message, go ahead and leave it at the beep, and if I think it's important, I'll get back to you when I have the time.  Have a nice day.

Just remember, while you're unlikely to get fired while you're the only one manning the ship now, when things get back to normal, revenge may be on someone's mind.

And remember to count your blessings; many have no work and no money and are in trouble.

I agree on count your blessings many out there am sure got let go permanently suffering no money.  Not too worried about being let go and if it happens,  not sweating it at all probably a blessing in disguise long term.   cooldude

What I am sort of worried about is my slower, older co-worker they all know she does 30% vs. me 70% daily and although not slacking off,  she has one speed,  turtle speed.   She is accurate, yet slow, and asks me 2-8 basic questions she should know near daily having been there twice as long as me.     I got from boss and bosses boss this week that they are this week and next week monitoring what I do vs. what she does daily her in next week and that might be the end of her?  She is pushing age 61 and as we all know,  the older you get the harder it is to find another job no one wants older people anymore all young punks outta college that will work lazily for 1-2 years tops and move on leaving to move up the kiss _ss company ladder.

sounds to me..
your un-happy at your current situation.

I have always used 3 simple rules while being an employee.

"You Will Respect & Compensate My Effort"

"Nobody, Yells at Me"

"The Day I Dread Doing My Job, Will be My Last."

I had the same thoughts when I was working, with a 4th one thrown in.

My leaders need to be smarter than me. (That's not saying a lot.) Otherwise we will all be in trouble.

Now retired but during my employment years, "You Will Respect & Compensate My Effort"  turned into: My effort will reflect your respect and compensation. This was during the looking for another job phase. One time, after finding a new job, I went in to give them my notice and was offered a 15% raise. My response was, If I stay I'll just have to find another job when I leave later.

No sir, not self employed.. tried that once early in my life.. It wasn't for me.

Believe me, There are a lot of bad companies & bosses out there. I've work for a few (for a short time) I just won't tolerate any lack of respect.

I've never been afraid to change my situation either if I wasn't happy.

that being said, I have very much enjoyed my 46 years working in construction & up until this c-19 crap I have never drawn one penny of un-employment.

am looking believe me.  To find out recently past few months my co-worker age 68 20 years there semi-retired who trained me with ME doing her entire job with me making 5 bucks less per hour (I can see 2-3 bucks less since her there 20 years vs. me near 2) as well as finding out that 3 in my same small hourly pay dept. got 3 weeks paid upfront vacation NOT negotiated vacation off (went to HR mgr. on this one)  vs. me and most of us in same dept. getting 2 weeks vacation even though in HR employee handbook states 2 weeks for all and the list goes on and on of both bosses clueless idiots talking out of their bungholes on stuff they do not know my jobs NOR how to do them.   I got yelled at ONCE and ONLY ONCE with senior boss at my bosses desk since I told boss what was wrong and she did nothing (another clueless one) who thought I did something wrong her making EVERY excuse in the book (was total harrassment) to blame me and I fired right back yelling back at her in front of everyone telling her face to face LOUDLY NOT my fault but your stupid old antiquated system did it overnight so talk to IT dept to fix it, I am DONE with her.  She never apologized or acknowledged I was right she was wrong either afterwards finding out same issue kept happening 5-6 times in a row for a few weeks.

I have 20 other issues but do not want to boar anyone anymore.  I had a 2nd job interview video conference last week off on furlough and 1 of 6 having 2nd interviews and just got word yesterday I did not get the job although when asked they said I did a super great interview and was highly experienced and knew what I was doing but they just picked another candidate is all they said in return.
