What is the name of the rubber covers/plugs that are on the vacuum ports on the carb to cylinder runners?

The ports that you hook to when synchronizing the carbs.

I'm missing one and the others are not looking in that good of shape.

They have assortment packs of crummy ones down at my local auto parts stores.

Honda OEM ones are good, I like them.

I think they say the redeye guy sells some... all his stuff is probably good.

People get hunks of the proper size vacuum hose, cut off an inch (or whatever,
probably a little shorter) and rtv a tight fitting little bolt in one end, I think that sounds
like a good idea.

The little fittings will screw out of your intake runners, there's people who have
taken them out and replaced them with little bolts of the correct size. That
would make a carb sync more involved :-) ...

I'm here to tell you those cheapo auto parts vacuum caps will not do the job on those intake ports.  They get too hot and rip and tear, and blow off in no time.  And then the bike starts backfiring on decel as loud as a .357 magnum and scares drivers (and you too).

You want the heavy dutiest caps you can find.  And some even add the real small/skinny zip ties on each one, pulled tight and the tails cut off.

I like that ideer, sounds heavy duty !   Next project to find that hose made from viton and the right screws.

Both oem and redeye vacuum caps are good. I posed a question on removing the nipple and replacing it with a bolt.




This was another forum member's pic. The vacuum caps can develop hairline fissures. I think that's due to bumping the vacuum caps when cleaning under there.

Thanks for all the info and suggestions guys.

I noticed that not only are my "vacuum caps" cracking and bad (or missing) but at least a couple of the rubber drain lines are split too so I'm assuming there are other rubber lines in that area that probably need attention.

Guess that'll be my next project: The dreaded "Pulling the Tank and changing the air filter!!!" while I check/replace the rubber.
I haven't changed the filter for probably 10yrs, so it's time, right?

One afternoon I changed my air filter, intake runner o-rings, vacuum caps, the vacuum line from
the petcock to #6 and all the carburetor drain lines. Some or all of that (well, not the carburetor
drain lines) made my bike run GREAT. Vacuum leaks are  detrimental.

Attic Rat removes those vacuum ports, bags them up and puts them in the customers battery box for future use. Then replaces them with 5mm bolts with crush washers. I'm about to rebuild my carbs and that's what my plan is...remove them, plus changing out my rubber based vacuum hoses used for my cruise control. Switching those lines to 3.5mm silicone. Figure it will all last longer than I'm around or able to ride. Hope another 4-5 yrs. before I give the bike to my daughter.

I have done this on every Valkyrie I have owned. Would sank the carbs and remove and install the 5mm bolt with a washer and medium lock tight (wife finger nail polish) works like a dream.

I just got done doing the carb manifold o'rings thus the cap's looked a little old. I ordered 2 sets of Redeye's. Hope I like the finger clamps that come with them compared to stock. Got OEM rear brake pads ordered last night also. Finally getting the ambition to get more labor of love done as I like having the garage door open while working in it and the damn weather has been so unpredictable plus Morel season is on. This is the 1st. year since 2009 I have had the time to do extra curricular activities I used do all the time.

That is what Bob did with mine as well.  Before Bob worked on it, I had checked the sync with the Digi Sync and was never out enough to adjust.  Don't know when I will ever need to sync again.
