Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: May 01, 2020, 07:06:52 AM »

Obvious, you’d think, that the appropriate tool would be more likely to produce a better outcome. For example, if one wanted to saw boards, then a saw and not a hammer should be employed. If one were to intend to pound railroad spikes, then a tack hammer would certainly be less effective… It’s that way with other choices with which we are confronted, too, and any dummy can plainly see that…

Now, there will be times when the best tool for our intended purpose is not available, so we are compelled to improvise… to make do with whatever is available; of course, there is always the other option of simply postponing our task until… I’m in that sort of predicament now, as I compose this little lament… I know what I want to do… what I need to do… but that option is not on the table at the moment, so… I must choose from among the lesser desirable alternatives as best I can…

Since returning from the west just over a month or so ago, I’ve made only a few ‘maintenance dose’ day rides… all the while yearning to be back out meandering around hither and yon… Dang! It does beat a blank, of course, but not by much. Yeah, I know most find themselves in that very situation most of the time, and I also recall how that was my fate once upon a time throughout most of my own life, as well. I did manage to break free of that, however, only now I find myself right back in that same boat… I do protest greatly, don’t I?

Well, dang! I just realized something I didn’t enjoy observing, so I paused to have a ‘heart-to-heart’ with myself. I’ve become entirely too  comfortable with bitching about things over which I have little to no control! Time to suck-it-up and enthusiastically take advantage of what is available, rather than sitting around complaining about what isn’t… Sheltering-in-place is obviously taking an emotional toll on this stranded trekker…

Well, the right tool for that is unavailable, so I’m going to choose to adapt and improvise… I’m going to substantially increase the ‘maintenance doses’; in frequency, that is, since there are limits on the duration of those open to us. Although we have ridden nearly all of the roads in this area over the years, long absences producing intervals of several years since many of those ribbons of asphalt have last been traveled will offer at least a wee bit of novelty and discovery possibilities… When life gives you lemons…

Oh wait… I just remembered a nasty complication! I sadly noticed on our latest abbreviated trek for BBQ, that those pesky promiscuous little lovemaking flying insects peculiar to our corner of the country have made their bi-annual appearance again already… Those devilish critters played a prominent role in the bestowing of my ‘handle’ back in the day… a long story I’ll save for another time…

Still, there will be that to consider and influence any dose remedy selections for the next few weeks… Oh my, if it ain’t one thing, it’s another… No information as to whether or not those  ‘natural irritants’ originated in Wuhan - either laboratory or open market… That theory hasn’t been advanced yet, to my knowledge anyway… Also, no connection to POTUS and/or the Russians has been claimed, either… so far…

Talk about a slippery slope! I no sooner realized my slip downward and tried to put a smiley face on things, than… Yep, I went right back to whining again! Apparently that is quite habit-forming, so I’m going to need a… Hey, I know! I just thought about the best tool there is for reversing negative thinking!!!

P.S. Thanks, y’all, for bearing with me on this… I obviously needed to work through some issues, but now I think I see a light…

Although I am not a seasoned traveler such as yourself, We had a couple of overnight and weekend jaunts planned that have been stifled by the KungFlu thing. We could ride some where, but no parks are open for camping and hotels are shut down. Food is obtained at drive-thru only.  tickedoff I've been thinking about going for a day ride, return home, set up a tent in the back yard. Next morning break camp, go for a day ride and return home as if we have been on a weekend get-a-way. Yea, that might do it!   2funny

I forgot a file at work yesterday and needed to prepare adjustments for a real estate closing Tuesday
My first one in well over a month so how to get there?

So I looked at the radar app for confirmation that the wet ground would not get wetter any time
soon (it had been raining for more than a day), took the cover off the bmw police bike and rode down to my office in the Bronx a half hour away.   I picked that bike because of the ABS and it just really holds the road much better in the rain and wet than the heavier but stately Valk interstate.  Besides I never was a fan of those E3's in the rain anyways..

Well you can not trust the weatherman or apparently radar as 10 miles from home the gentle
precipitation commenced to moisten my face and the road. Still a wet day on a bike is better than a dry day in a car isn't it?

By the time I got to work the rain was a bit more earnest but the fairing kept all but the side of my legs dry.  Waterproof boots and killamanjaro jacket kept me dry and warm.  Snug as a bug in a rug you might say

The ride home however was more interesting.  Ended up keeping the visor up and the windshield at max height and got home safely.    Glad to hear you are keeping your options open Bruce. Look forward to your next installment.

You know what, when I was a kid there were these shorts, like the cisco kid, between the 1st and 2nd movie at the saturday double feature. I look forward to your reports more than I looked forward to what happened next to the hero.

Be well

Great song...love the message. I can't recall ever hearing it before. Had 8-tracks of these guys that I wore out in the 70's...just a great band. Still have a couple of their LP's  in our stash somewhere downstairs...now I'm gonna have to dig them out to see if this song is on one of them.

One of my favorites I try to live by the concept.  How else would folks like us get through our winters?   Cheesy

Hope to meet you and talk twangy music someday!

While far from being the seasoned traveler that you are, I certainly feel and share your pain.

With all of this craziness going on my little jaunts have been 200 miles or less and have not crossed any state lines.

Even a typical day ride for me usually tallies 400+ miles and crosses several state lines.

So, I'm feeling a little stymied myself.

Bruce would liberally spread bacon grease on bug impact zones be useful. The only down side may be the attraction of house flies and bees
