I went for a nice ride this morning and upon reflecting I decided to pull my response to you and put it in a new thread where it really belongs
sorry for orphaning the two folks who responded and thank you anyways.
I refrain from name calling and isolating members even those with whom I have strong disagreements politically. I do not think we have met, and my history is that a person can be a friend of mine even if I do not like your politics unless it demeans, isolates and tends to incite evil doing.
It is more how a person walks the walk than cheap talk to me and I have a memory for invective like an elephant --------------- ---------------
DaveMn This one is for you.
This is an off kilter world we live in
Trump was a Democrat who became a Republican because he could not stand the economic policies of that party. He ran for President because he was fed up with the way the USA was being a patsy for the rest of the world on trade Did I like him before he ran? No Did I think he was racist before he ran? NO The man for years had a black girl friend and his daughter converted to be a jew. He is open minded and generous He works for free, donating his salary every year when it brings him no benefit over the years Here in NY we know of many spontaneous acts of generosity by Donald Trump over the years that brought him no gain and which he sought no gain. He gets things done. Was he a sharp businessman? You betchya He got in to make $ and got out for the same reason. He worked over the people who supplied services when it suited him. He was no saint in business. Neither was any of the robber barrons who built america into what it became before him.
Is he a big mouth. Absolutely It comes with show biz these days I do not hold his lack of military service any more against him than I did Clinton or Obama or Romney and did not credit McCain any more for the same reason. McCain had his shot and like Romney lacked the gumption to lead his party to victory
Only Trump said he did not care what our allies would do, he would base his policy on what is best for america The CCP gave us the virus/pandemic, with or without the assistance of unwitting fools like Gates and others unknown yet. China like many other entities (radical islam, communism which is not dead) have been at long game war with the USA for decades now. We were beating China, and badly and their corrupt CCP allowed the development and release of covid19 while they build next generation aircraft carriers, develop barrier islands to take over the south china sea routes (They learned from Japan) and crush religion and free press. They also continue to steal our intellectual property and listen in on everything as they develop chips that go into everything because we were stupid enough to allow them access
Did we over react? ( I am not sure still even though I think I had covid and it was no picnic)
But I do not think anyone could have handled it better and more imaginatively than Trump It took Trump to level the international playing field, return jobs to the USA, boost all of our retirement 401k's and portfolios and bring unemployment of blacks, latino, women and white to the lowest levels ever recorded. The development of drugs, last chance options ! These are things unimaginable a few years back. The VA being held responsible ! amazing for our vets.
Holding covid over his head because you think you could do better or do not like his tweets (I dont either) makes no sense to me, especially as you must agree the whole impeachment debacle was a DNC objective since day one. Show your righteous indignation there, against Clinton and the false ring bearers of the DNC like the witch Pelosi and the girls wearing KKK white of their party Oss
and finally think of the economic carnage if HRC was in charge. It is bad enough the DNC without her is raping us on the small business aid with Kennedy Center and other pork you should oppose as a Republican. We hit this crisis with low interest rates and a nice cushion that was not wiped out overnight as in the great depression. We are poised to recover quickly if people will be responsible.

Very well thought out and stated post Oss. Candidate Trump was never my favorite candidate but, I believe he's done a commendable job. Do I like him personally, no, not at all. Do I think he's taking the country the right direction? You can bet your bippy on it.
I sincerely wish him well in trying to drain the swamp. But as the old saying goes, it's hard to remember the mission was to drain the swamp when you're up to your ass in alligators. Yes, there have been challenges for this President all presented by a left leaning House. I have nothing good to say about Speaker Pelosi.
But, reference your initial post in this thread, I'll only say this, you can't preach to an empty church. No one is listening. "They" won't even acknowledge the Biden sexual assault allegation as needing to be investigated. Hypocrisy reins supreme with this group. It's disgusting. I have no knowledge of Davemn's political persuasion, he wouldn't respond to any of my specific questions.
No, I don't personally like Donald J. Trump as a person but, he's one hell of a President. He puts Americans and the US of A first. Buying friends has never been a good policy which is all most Presidents and legislators have done.

Dave says he’s a Republican so I believe him. He really dislikes Trump and I believe him. Whether he can put that aside and see the effort Trump is making to give this country a fighting chance in the world arena remains to be seen.
The old saying, know your enemy, really applies here. Some people need someone to blame for their troubles and disappointments and Trump makes a nice big target. I firmly believe that the enemy we all face is the Congress and the faceless influence peddlers that have been very successful in corrupting the work we send our representatives to Washington to perform. I’m not saying every rep we have sent to serve is corrupt but it’s easy to see that the power structure that exists in Congress breeds corruption and shuts down most all dissent from those who just want to do a good job for the country.

Let’s say you have a neighbor. His name is Ron. He keeps his property in tremendous shape. Nicest property in the neighborhood. It’s good for your property value. Ron is a total jerk. He makes sexual comments about the women in the neighborhood including your wife. He has mocked your best friend who has a learning disability. Ron will tell you things that are outright lies. He cheats on his wife. He acts like he’s really intelligent but it’s clear he’s probably very average or below average smart. He gives you terrible advice, dangerous advice. One day you’re driving and see Ron broke down on the side of the road. Do you stop? I don’t. I might even wave when I go by. Being a good decent person is incredibly important to me. Maybe it’s the “Minnesota Nice” thing. Sorry, just me. So......I’ve been insulted on this board. Told I was ignorant. Last week I was called a “Giant Dickhead”. Almost like a lynch mob. I’ve always been fairly cordial to people on this board. Do I disagree? Yes. I don’t call people vulgar names. Many of my posts have been removed if I poke fun at Trump but other posts remain that clearly derogatory towards the opposition. You Trumpers can comment as much as you want but I won’t see it. I will occasionally check the Tech Board as I still have my Valkyrie but as of 4:17 today I am off this board.

Well, the neighborly thing to do would be to stop and Help Ron out.

That sir, is an excellent example. And, I must admit, one that has not crossed my mind for some time. I thank you for posting that. I totally agree not only with the thought but the example given. By driving by and not lending a hand as described in his example you're generally showing your own shortcomings(maybe as big a horse's ass as he). One needs to remember, when pointing a finger, there are three others pointing back at you from your own hand. Seldom have I ever passed up someone in need, especially on the highway. I've done so under certain circumstances but not without good reason. Just because someone doesn't have a dime's worth of couth or common sense in his/her person is not a good reason. Over the years, there have been times on the road when I've gone so far as to fix someone's car at my expense just so they could go to work, get home, continue their journey, etc., whatever the need. I don't look for payment but somehow it always comes back, though it may be years in coming and I have to be reminded of it. In years past, I've had neighbors as described by Davemn and they can be a real PITA to live near. In most cases, I've found I can break through and eventually become friends with that person. At least I give it the old college try.

John Schmidt, "You’re a better man than I am, Gunga Din!" Thats what I thought when I read your response. Proud that you are member here. And while I have never read the poem in its entirely, it was there, in the back of my mind. So, if those reading this thread which to read Gunga Din by Rudyard Kipling, here is a link. https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poets/rudyard-kiplingAnd if you find the poem hard to read, as I did, here is a link to the meaning and story in Kipling's Gunga Din.https://www.gradesaver.com/rudyard-kipling-poems/study-guide/summary-gunga-din

One evening in January 1976 driving north from Disneyworld (end of spring break spent in Miami ) with a friend in my 57 Olds Super 88 (you had to lift the chrome on the left side of the rear bumper under the left tail light to pump gas 3fan) I saw a navy fellow hitchiking on the side of the road. He looked hurt and he was.
Although my friend said "dont stop" I did so (dad was in the navy) and asked how far he needed a ride
a good hundred or so miles was the answer. We gave him a ride home, had some great conversation and got to his home where he and his wife put us up in a tiny bungalow next to their house. In the morning I saw where we really were. We were on the east bank of the ST John River, there were orange and lemon trees in the front yard and he had caught fish that we had with breakfast his wife cooked us. He gave us some beer and herb and we rode back toward Buffalo. The rest of the story I will tell at Inzane
You stop and help because it is the thing to do. Avram became Abraham because he welcomed the stranger and bathed his feet and fed him. Don't have to go that far but as a human you should not pass up like your example davemn
There is a story recounted in Forbes where a motorist stopped to help Trumps limo when it broke down and he paid off his mortgage altho he was asked if he would simply send flowers to the wife. I know for a fact he rescued kids basketball tournaments etc long ago when just a playboy.
He is no saint, he is human, but it is clear to me he is putting us ahead of his pocket, Can not say that for the Clintons who stole shamelessly from Arkansas, us all and put in their criminal foundation or Obama who used his office and still trying to bring down an elected President, or Biden who used his office to enrich his family by many millions, or Pelosi, the daughter of a mob boss taking her skill to rape her state and our country I can go on but since you are gone I will end here

I apologize in advance for this "sea story".
1971 - 1972, I forget which year, my boat (Patrick Henry) was at Goose Creek, SC for a missile load out.
Several of us were off that evening so we elected to get in the van, at our disposal, and head into Charleston to find a bar.
As we were driving into town, a pickup truck, coming from the other direction did some strange stuff and overturned into the "turn lane" separating the traffic. It ended upside down, some steam coming out of the engine compartment. We saw it as it happened and, without a word being said, the driver of the van (a shipmate) pulled to the side of the road.
All of us got out (probably four or five at least), went to the truck, got the passengers out and safely away from the vehicle, made sure they were safe and not severely injured and as other people gathered, we got back into the van and headed to the bar.
No words were said, no high fives, we did it spontaneously, it was what you did. Leave no one behind.
Point being, some things are taught, some ingrained by example.
And as you will note, that was 50 years ago and I can remember the pickup truck was a dark color.

I walked an ex-girlfriend down the aisle because her father didn't like the husband. A few years later I drove a van to pick up her stuff because she didn't like the guy. Funny old world.

Serk: thanks for the help! Just double checking, but the only thing I could find was: "I think President Trump is a terrible human being. He’s a liar. He always changes his mind because he’s not very smart. I don’t trust him. I think his wealthy father got him out of Vietnam. Someone else served in his place, I hope they made it home. I think he’s a coward. I voted for Rubio. He disparaged the name of John McCain. He’s not half the man John McCain was." Is that all? If so, I think he was pretty mild.

Quote from: Davemn on May 02, 2020, 04:46:52 PM If you want to learn more about me read this. If not I couldn’t care less. Maybe if you do choose to read you won’t call me nasty names. Most of my posts get deleted....I guess for not being one of the gang. I never call people names although I do jab Trump once in awhile....guilty.
I’ve voted republican for 45 years.....always. I’m a gun owner but I don’t have them to be a tough guy. Hunting. I see no need to carry. I don’t care if you do. If there’s a shootout and I get shot so be it. I’m not living my life in fear in case there is. I think the NRA are a bunch of kooks. We don’t need bump stocks, long mags and cop killer bullets. But I will fight to keep anyone from my guns......yours too. I will fight for the unborn. I’m a devout Lutheran.....the conservative synod. I think President Trump is a terrible human being. He’s a liar. He always changes his mind because he’s not very smart. I don’t trust him. I think his wealthy father got him out of Vietnam. Someone else served in his place, I hope they made it home. I think he’s a coward. I voted for Rubio. He disparaged the name of John McCain. He’s not half the man John McCain was. I’m sure this won’t see the light of day.

That threat must have gotten deleted and I didn’t see it. I don’t remember it.
(Strong Eagle ?)
Negative. It takes more than just disagreeing with someone repeatedly for me to actively dislike them. Well, now I'm really curious. But I won't delve any deeper. I too have been threatened here. But, strangely I had I different reaction. Mine was more of pity and wonderment.

Damn, that is messed up. I wish you and wife a speed recovery! Actually it's kind of good. Now Evan can run fearlessly thru Times Square naked, and have not a care in the world.
