When I changed pads recently I guess I didn't put tension on that little spring clip enough so there's a little bit of slop in the pads and when I go over bumps I can actually hear the pads clacking around. Other than the annoyance of the noise is there really an issue that I should deal with or can I just live with it?

Those pads are held in by the bolt at one end and the notch finger thingy on the other end. Let me put it this way. If the pads come out I'll always believe they shouldn't have.  Roll Eyes I'm thinkin here those springs just mitigate the noise yer now hearing. Pretty sure others Will chime in. RIDE SAFE.

So I get ready for a ride into town. My MP3 player is dead. Ok so a silent ride is still a ride. Then I hear it. Dang it front brake pads clattering. I figured with no music now I can hear them. On the long way home so I’m trying to change the sound by applying front brakes. No change. So if it’s not the brake pads what could it be. Almost home and it hits me. Close one of the vents on my full face helmet ant the clatter stops. Lol. Just a vent door in the wind.  uglystupid2 2funny

Just for kicks i might try that trick where you put a short piece of hose between the pads.

On second thought I bagged that idea because the noise is from the other end of the pads not the pin end.

If it’s the pads bring noisy the noise should stop or significantly change with a slight squeeze on the front brake handle. If no change the noise is not the pads

Yeah definitely the pads, I tried lightly touching the brake and it shuts up when I do. The thing is I thought with new pads it would be quieter but it's not. Took a long ride today and I had my earplugs in... not as annoying Grin

What kind of pads did you put on? They sinistered?  If you put new pads on how did your rotor look>?

If you don't get those clips right you could have some noise, too me they either fit right or not. They are supposed to put down force on the brake pads.

Did you put some grease on the outside of the pads?

My rotors are new they're aftermarket rotors. The pads are sintered metal. The new pads and rotors are breaking in well and they are working great as far as stopping and all. I see no excessive wear occurring either. I got the clips in there right but those clips are kind of worn to be honest. I did not put grease on the back of my brake pads I never do that.

So I pulled my calipers off and re-tentioned stainless steel clips/springs and that solved the problem no more clacking.
