"If this is true, F-him!"  followed by a screenshot of a tweet, supposedly from the President, that had a few false items that tried to make him look like an evil person.

This was a Facebook post from a friend of mine for quite some time.  An highly educated person who practically had the same lower middle class upbringing I had and whose life is not much different than mine is right now.  And he's not the only one of my friends who are the original posters of such things.  I have to sift through fake memes and altered tweets and distorted "news" items that seem to give these very smart people the permission to say some of the most vulgar things I have ever heard directed towards the Pres.  Even the worst said on this board about Obama doesn't even come close.  I have an actor friend with 30K followers, who posts some horrendous crap and then he gets thousands of replies cheering him on saying even worse.

And it's all based on lies, or omissions, or photoshopped tweets.  Never based on policy disagreement or something he actually did.

And now this........  If it's true......"  Don't even bother to fact check it, "F" him anyway, right ?

When did it all get so backwards?

People these days will believe what they want (hope?) to think is real. They don't want to be bothered with any research at all.  Even when there are really nasty things said about Pelosi, Obama, etc, I would still look things up to see if there was any truth.
I think for myself.
It seems no one else wants to do so.

I cant imagine how my  parents would look upon the present state
of affairs .
I was always told and always have respected the office if not the man.
Some of the things that the press and people will say about EVERYBODIES
 president is just terrible.
Even though I didnot care for some of our leaders I still try to
not take it to such levels where hate takes over.
I guess if OUR president were to get four more years maybe the
people that said they would leave will truly do so.

There are 12 Dem Senators up for re-election this year and 29 Dem Congressmen.

A good start would be for the voters to replace every single one of them with a Republican candidate and re-elect every single Republican that is running for re-election.

Not only would this ensure a solid majority for the Republicans, it would send a resounding message to the Dems that American is tired of their crap.

And that they had better get busy working for us or they'll be out in the next election.

If only. If that happens it would be nice. Surprising, and, nice.

I didn’t look up the numbers. But that doesn’t make sense to me. 29 Democrats ? Aren’t all congressmen (and women) up for election every 2 years ? That would mean there are likely 200 plus of each party up for re-election. (Minus the ones retiring and ones picked off in the primaries)

There are 535 members of congress.
100 senators
435 representatives

senators have 6 year terms with staggered elections
reps have 2 yr terms with election on even numbered years

1/3 of the Senate is up for election every 2 years. By convention, it done with the elections for the House and President/Vice President.

I have no idea what 3fan4life is talking about.

A Much BETTER thing would be Term Limits. And what ever that term is one term and done. RIDE SAFE.

I support term limits, something like two terms for a Senator and maybe 4 terms for a Representative.  Twelve years and eight years respectively.

However, there is a persistent issue with the notion of term limits.  That is the bureaucracy that is needed to support Congress will not be changed.  And since it will take each new congressman some time to learn how things work, this bureaucracy will ulitmaley become the ruling group.

Yes Minister was a BBC comedy that ran in the 80's.  The basic premise of the show as I remember it was that the Minster was easily controlled by those around him.  But I have not watched it in a long time.

Term limits are needed, but you are right Jim.  The pure numbers of government employees, career civil servants and SES (senior executive service), including all the staffs of all the Federal executive departments constitute more of the swamp than Congress.

There's also the routine phenomenon of high level appointments in Federal government (deputy undersecretary, under secretary, assistant secretary and so on) being eligible to auger-in following the end of their appointments (when the Party in power leaves, all (or most) of these appointments get replaced), and these folks then apply to transfer sideways into high level civil service or SES positions in the same departments they have experience and background in.

And really experienced congressional staffers get good pay and are in high demand.

And all the professional lobbyists are private and unaffected by elections, and continue to buy politicians for a living.

I've always believed a great idea to remedy this would be to move the national Capitol to the dead center of the country.... like Lebanon, Kansas.   Well away from either leftist coast.  And start over.

The best example (to me) of a movie accurately depicting the behind the scenes power in Congress was Jimmy Stewart's Mr Smith Goes To Washington (one of the best movies ever made).  Where Jean Arthur, his top staffer has to teach him how to offer a bill to congress.  It was made in 1939, and is as relevant and important of a message today as it ever was.  Especially the part where he goes around town punching reporters in the nose.

I was looking at this site:

https://www.270towin.com/2020-house-election/

I thought that the list was a complete one, apparently what I was looking at was only a list of "Highly" contested races.

This site does indeed state that all 435 congressional seats are up for re-election:

https://ballotpedia.org/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2020

The Senate numbers seem to be correct as the remaining numbers are Republicans running for re-election.

So, we the voters need to send 223 Dem Congressmen packing this November.

Yes, I know that isn't going to happen.

It would be nice if enough of them were fired by the voters that the remaining ones took notice.
