Rode the Valk to work today at around 20 degrees temp never got above freezing all day and the bike did not start for the ride home. It was turning over good then quit cranking I tried push starting it with no luck tried jumping across the soleniod and realized the battery was low. A co worker gave me a jump and I still had to jump the soleniod and it cranked great but would not start. Any ideas would be helpful I left it at work and hope it will get to 40 degrees later tomorrow and I can work with it. Lee

Frozen liquidin the gas?
Cranking it over with the choke on did you ever smell gas? If not no fuel. If yes, make sure that the plugs are not gas fouled.
Make sure you have spark, then make sure you have gas.
Good luck. Pete.

I'm thinkin frozen fuel in line or in the carbs. Metal gets quite cold quick.

How old is your battery? Cold weather will eat a marginal battery. It may be fine in warm weather for a variety of reasons, but the cold is unforgiving. -RP

Battery is old cables were loose I suspect I flooded it cranking with a weak battery I'm kinda concerned why it quit cranking with the button and does the ignition somehow get its power thru the starter button. Once I hooked the jumper cables and shorted across the starter solenoid I thought it would start.

Not enough voltage to fire the ignition. New battery time!

Not really sure, it has been so long since I've used it I'm not sure which way is on. I did try it both ways but before I changed I could have already flooded it or killed the battery. There is also the possibility a coworker play with the switch. I'm taking some test equipment with me today and see what I come up with at lunch if I don't get it going I'll call a towtruck to bring it home, I've always owned Hondas so up to this point I've never had a reason to buy a trailer. Thanks for all the advice Lee

#1. Get a new, Yousa battery. #2. Are you SURE you had the choke on? Pushed PAST when it normally stops? #3. Kill switch on. Push the back down. If push forward, will kill it. #4. You may well have flooded it good by now. May have to get it warm to unflood. #5. Full of fuel?
I believe the start of the problem is a bad battery, if you had the choke really on.

I'm with RP and Daniel,, The starter will eat up all the available electrons and not leave enough for the ignition system to feed on.. These monsters do need a good well charged battery.. You may also have a second problem, a dirty starter switch, and a look at the starter switch maintenance section in either shop talk or the archives should correct that.. Loose battery connections are sometimes a problem with these also[ground at the engine block].. What kinda bothers me though is the statement that it wouldn't push start,, seems like it should have..

Brought it home on a tow truck. Checked all fuses they were ok, again tried a jumper box and had to short across the soliniod to crank it over. It is tucked away in the garage now and I'll dig into it this weekend. I suspect it has two problems I also did not seem to be getting any spark to the plugs. As for the start button, I do know the headlight goes off when I push it in as if it is working. Thanks again for the responses Lee

Beginning to sound like a bad or off kill switch...
But, check the voltage across the battery while cranking...if it falls below 12 it's shot.

Does the kill switch kill the starter to if so that maybe the problem I did check to see if I had it turned the right way. Guess I could walk my lazy rear down to the garage and check the other Valks kill switch but it is still cold outside. Thanks

As soon as I get a little spare time the first place I'm going to check is the kill switch, Thanks Daniel and Willow. I took a closer look at the wiring diagram and it does look like it controls both. I don't recall ever using the kill switch but thinking back the bike was turning over and quit, possibly about the same time as I checked the kill switch thinking a coworker might have messed with it. Could be the cold weather had caused the battery to be to weak to start and when I flipped the previously unused switch it failed. I promise to post the results when I get it fixed, it was a sad site to see the Valk on a roll back truck and I am expecting a lot of ribbing at work today since both Bosses ride Harleys.

Daniel and Willow were right, Thanks. Checked the other Valk this morning and sure enough with the kill switch off the starter will not spin however the headlight will go out when you press the starter button. Got off work early today and flipped the kill switch firmly a few times and the starter button started working. I opened it up and flooded it with contact cleaner then blew it dry I presently have the battery charging so I can test it, probably will get changed anyway. As for the ribbing I received today it was bad, guess you could say I was payed back in triplicate, 3 or 4 years ago someone slipped a drip pan under the bosses Harley which to this day he believes was me. We do ribb each other a lot and even the nonbikers in our unit join in and tease the boss about his choice of bike. Someone took a picture of my bike loaded on the rollback and sent it to the boss. By 0900 this morning he had emailed it to all the section supervisors who in turn printed out copies stuck them under windshields in the parking lot and were passing them out to everyone who knew me. Unfortunatly today was our Christmas luncheon and I caught hell. If it isn't snowing tomorrow I need to ride that bike to shut them up.
