I tried to post already but don't know if it went thru ! Yesterday I started having about 1 inch of free play on my throttle. I have a 2001 Valk (standard). My thought is that a main connection at the carbs slipped. I messed with the settings at the handlebars, but it did nothing. If someone can help me I would greatly appreciate it. I also am not sure that I will find the answer you send on this site. Please email me at: mrantioch@hotmail.com ! Thank-you so very much in advance ! Larry

It should be fairly easy to see if the cables look right at the carbs. If it’s not looking messed up there I’d suspect a failed cable. They are fairly easy to replace.

Thanks for the reply Chris. Would I have to pull the tank and breather box ? I imagine I would. I am going to call my local dealer today and see what they can tell me. Thank-you again !

Pulling the tank makes it way easier. You won’t need to pull the air box

Most likely they'll say "Valkyrie?, is that a Honda?" As Jeff stated, pulling the tank will make it easier and you can check or replace the air filter also.

I pulled my carbs a couple weeks ago, put everything together, tighten everything, took her for a ride, took me a couple hours while I'm riding to figure out why do I have about an inch of play, I completely forgot to tighten the screws on both cable by the carburetor Now I have to pull the tank to adjust.

Like I always say. If you think pulling the tank is hard, you just haven’t done it enough

I have had bikes and worked on bikes that the tank was harder to pull than the Valkyrie for sure. No body parts to remove, remember the cross over tube what a PITA that is. I must have pulled a Valkyrie tank 80 or so times. I never found it hard. Now I don’t even think about it. If it needs to come off boom it’s off. Sometimes getting the vacuum line to the petcock is a pain because on some Valkyries more than others for some reason the connection is directly behind a fairly immovable wire harness. Aside from that, POC once you have done it a few times.
