N.J. reopens to the “new normal”

https://www.nj.com/coronavirus/2020/05/coronavirus-vaccine-must-be-widely-available-before-nj-fully-reopens-to-new-normal-murphy-says.html

“ As Gov. Phil Murphy lifted more restrictions put in place to combat the coronavirus Monday, he also cautioned the state would not fully reopen to a “new normal” until there’s a vaccine widely available - something experts may not happen”

“ The cautionary statement was made as the state continues to make gains with steady drops in hospitalization rates and a gradual reopening of some businesses with restrictions. But hospitals are still accepting new COVID-19 patients on a daily basis and 10,435 New Jersey residents have died since of March.“

““Until a proven vaccine is widely available, we cannot firmly enter the ‘new normal’ which eventually awaits us, when life will once again return to all our workplaces, downtowns, and main streets,” Murphy said during his regular COVID-19 briefing in Trenton.“

“Dr. Anthony Fauci, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force, has said a vaccine is possible by early next year under a rapidly advanced schedule, though other estimates put that timeline 18 months away. While there are trials ongoing, there’s no approved coronavirus vaccine at present.”

The bar keeps moving and in the wrong direction.  Being shut down is a slow death in and of itself, peoples lives are dying on the vine and our Governor is squeezing us even more even though the stats are showing much improvement.

By the end of the year would be light speed to have a deployable vaccine. Probably won’t have it by New years. Lockdowns will not  survive that long. It would get very ugly!!

Apparently other states are in on this idea also.

They'll just teach everyone to twiddle their thumbs while waiting on that vaccine!  It'll occupy their minds while they hide in their basements!

I do not condone mandated lockdown.  I also don't condone stupidity.   I can foresee that as things open up if too much stupidity results in large outbreaks, those large outbreaks will likely be trampled down -- by any means necessary.  Like it or not.

In that sense how quickly things become "open" and "normal",  barring that vaccine, is up to us.
