This is a news article from yesterday. 2 owners of the gym made a decision last week to reopen yesterday. In this link is a couple videos but the most important one is at the bottom of the page which the one owner named Frank filmed last week. https://6abc.com/atilis-gym-new-jersey-covid19-coronavirus-nj/6192735/In this video interview which was done this morning by FOX the other owner talks about yesterday. NJ Governor Murphy yesterday responded to the opening by saying; “ If you show up at that gym tomorrow there's going to be a different reality," he said during a news conference.“ “Murphy said he plans to enforce the rules, but that he doesn't want to start "WWIII." https://video.foxnews.com/v/6157661796001#sp=show-clipsHope that link works.

will be interesting to see if they really do arrest and for sure fine the gym members going into the gym today.
Green county WI where I live just re-opened everything back up yesterday meaning if the owners want to open, they can, such as haircut places and gyms, pretty much everything. We shall see what happens since the area has more farm animals than people living in the 3 surrounding rural counties where the virus infection spread has been low vs. more urban areas.

How local media spins this. https://www.nj.com/opinion/2020/05/sorry-that-defiant-nj-gym-owner-is-not-a-hero-hes-part-of-the-problem.html“ Ian Smith is no hero. Don’t buy into that malarkey, and be thankful that the dozens of supporters gathered outside of his Bellmawr gym are in a minority that, frankly, is getting far too much attention. He isn’t just putting his customers at risk by defying a state order to keep non-essential business closed. He is sending an awful message that personal needs -- his business, and therefore, your business -- are above the greater good.” I’d like to also add something from a celebrity, and I don’t like to use celebrities at all but this was something very unusual and hit directly at the point. The guy from “Wheel of Fortune” Pat Sajak had a ver pointed opinion that is geared directly at those in influential media positions. https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/pat-sajak-questions-himself-media-personalities-telling-others-work-home-during-coronavirus-pandemic“ Longtime "Wheel of Fortune" host Pat Sajak questioned how talk show hosts and members of the media-- working remotely-- are telling those in financial trouble to stay home during the coronavirus pandemic, saying on Sunday, "it’s okay to question the premise." "When a disc jockey or a talk show host or a journalist who is being paid to work from his or her home tells people who can’t work, pay bills or pay their rent or mortgage to 'Stay home and be careful because we’re all in this together,' it’s okay to question the premise," he wrote on Twitter.”

Note that Mr. Sajak does not say the virus should not be taken seriously. Rather, he is pointing out the absurdity social distancing presents for those who have no other choice than risking their health to earn a living. It's a good point, whether you consider the risk to be perceived or actual.

nobody who asserted flatten the curve is saying one life will be saved Not one !
Prove me wrong I dare you
The stay at home orders were to "ease" the burden of health care workers and hospitals
Meanwhile scumbags like Cuomo and Diblasio send seniors to nursing homes to die when we had an empty Javits center and an empty hospital ship that is no longer in NY
And hospitals and nursing homes should have protective gear already for their health care workers Should not be blaming the govmt for that failure of private industry
We should all be working, this hole is one we will have more trouble digging out of each day it remains exposed.
Want to wear a mask at the gym? sure
I want to know why Congress is being paid and why any legislator is still being paid. They should feel every bit of pain the public must feel and then some

Is It Constitutional To Withhold Congressional Pay? Yes, they can but..... It requires a new law (guess who has to approve that but even if they did). The 27th Amendment to the Constitution provides: “No law, varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives, shall take effect, until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.”Two House Republican leadership aides insist that their proposed legislation would be permissible under the 27th Amendment. “The legislation does not change members’ pay. It does not reduce it,” one leadership aide told TPM. “It withholds it until they pass a budget, which is permissible under the 27th Amendment.” Adam Winkler, a constitutional law professor at UCLA School of Law, told TPM that the proposal faces a serious hurdle because of the 27th Amendment. They own it, we let them. We pay the price. https://talkingpointsmemo.com/dc/is-it-constitutional-to-withhold-congressional-pay

go for it and take about 100 others with you to sign up and go in. Sooner or later the police will not have enough room in their jail cells to hold you all, then what? ship you all in jails to other cities? I personally do not feel gyms are safe to go in and use with sweat and water droplets, etc. all over the eqmt. even if the owners wipe down after EVERY use their eqmt., but some feel it is o.k. let them go. Let people live their lives or die doing what they like to do.

cookiedough, Your suggestion is a good one because it will help establish "herd immunity". The people attending the gym would normally be in good health and younger. This thought was codified in an article in "The Federalist" on April 3, 2020. A partial quote from the article. "Herein lies the dilemma, or Sophie’s choice, of dealing with COVID-19. A full quarantine will result in the deaths of more elderly and medically ill people because more of them will become infected. A partial quarantine would likely result in a greater number of mild infections in young and healthy individuals upfront (but not total). How many more elderly or medically ill people will die due to a full quarantine? It is hard to say, but a conservative estimate would be 5-10 times the number of young and healthy people who may die from a partial quarantine, based on fatality rates published by the CDC." If you are at risk, then you should take precautions as you are allowed or you can sustain. However, a general lock down, "stay at home" order is and was not in our best interest to limits deaths. https://thefederalist.com/2020/04/03/why-severe-social-distancing-might-actually-result-in-more-coronavirus-deaths/

Day 3; https://patch.com/new-jersey/gloucestertownship/nj-gym-reportedly-opens-third-day-despite-murphy-warnings“ An image provided to Patch on Wednesday showed police arriving at the gym with what appeared to be a summons. Fox 29 reports that police are following gym goers as they leave the gym parking lot and issuing summons for violations of executive orders. Bellmawr police said information will be released later in the day.” Where is the county sheriff on this. He should be standing up for his people as an elected official. His deputies should be there to oversee the situation and make sure any arrests are for the right reasons.

Whenever someone claims they're not worried about gun confiscation or any other mass unconstitutional activities because the cops would never enforce it watch carefully what's happening right now.
I really hoped the regular cops on the beat would prove me wrong on this one and refuse to enforce unjust orders.

This was happening to a local bar/grill near my parents summer place in the Catskills in NY. The local police didn't like the owner because he ran against the local ..... Not sure if was Sheriff or something in the local police dept.......... and exposed a lot of corrupt crap going on. Unfortunately he didn't win, but his customers were harassed so frequently driving home, he had to shut down. BTW, the gym is closed today.

Very disappointing with even as much to go in and see what protocols the owners put into place and how operation was being handled. The owners used the time original closed period to remove some equipment and reposition all other equipment to be 6’ apart and were operating at a very low capacity of members allowed in, I believe it was like 30% of full capacity. Members temperature was taken before entering and increased disinfecting was implemented. And of course masks were mandatory. Very sad, closed for trying to work and give people a place to exercise and work off/ out their frustrations, cabin fever and be healthy. Very disappointed in the local police as well as the County Sheriff for not stepping up and protesting the Governor’s executive order. What happened to stay at home order is for the purpose of not overwhelming the hospitals which has morphed into this ridiculous thing we have now. In this link, over 500 doctors “petitioned” to the President. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/doctors-raise-alarm-about-health-effects-of-continued-coronavirus-shutdown“ More than 600 doctors signed onto a letter sent to President Trump Tuesday pushing him to end the "national shutdown" aimed at slowing the spread of the coronavirus, calling the widespread state orders keeping businesses closed and kids home from school a "mass casualty incident" with "exponentially growing health consequences." The letter outlines a variety of consequences that the doctors have observed resulting from the coronavirus shutdowns, including patients missing routine checkups that could detect things like heart problems or cancer, increases in substance and alcohol abuse, and increases in financial instability that could lead to "[p]overty and financial uncertainty," which "is closely linked to poor health." "We are alarmed at what appears to be the lack of consideration for the future health of our patients," the doctors say in their letter. "The downstream health effects ... are being massively under-estimated and under-reported. This is an order of magnitude error."

I thought I had it bad when my taxes (and everyone else's) went up this past year 20% vs. normal 1-5% since 1993. Everyone in this small rural midwest town screamed bloody murder. Luckily, my house is am sure the top 5% smallest homes in the village with the least amount of taxes based upon square footage. If I was paying what my neighbors up the street are paying with 2000 and over sq. foot homes being double or triple my size home I might as well move to Madison yuppie vill WI. I still remember vividly like it was yesterday when my a-hole neighbor fancy builder of homes up my street 2 houses up me age 23 at the time when built new home stopping in the middle of the street telling me he did not like the looks of my house does not fit in well with the neighborhood. I was like F U and sent him on his merry way. ONLY 2 things I wish it had at the time was a spare room and a 3 car garage vs. a standard 2 car garage. At least the village finally removed the burning barrel ban yesterday so spent an hour or so burning my 2 full garbage trash cans that has been saved up for well over 1 month now. Then, I emptied one taking the remnants of ashes to the villages recycling center.

Funny thing, they said they don't have paper towels in the bathrooms.

The Sheriff’s dept is suppose to be there to protect property rights and other issues regarding property and personal rights. If I’m wrong then I have completely misunderstood the chain of law inforcement in our state. Either way this is all wrong.

I dealt with the sheriffs when I was evicting tenants in camden county and that was what they had told me, but again that was 20 yrs ago and things change.

I will bet this church will be rebuilt post haste and the congregation will still hold services somewhere if not in the parking lot of said Church. Who ever burnt this house of god will burn themselves.

I will bet this church will be rebuilt post haste and the congregation will still hold services somewhere if not in the parking lot of said Church. Who ever burnt this house of god will burn themselves. I hope they are holding services somewhere. I really thought we as a nation were past this crap of burning churches. Even in biblical times 40 days was enough; Noah...rain for 40 days and nights. Moses on the mountain for 40 days. Jesus in the desert for 40 days. Enough is enough already. Protestant, Baptist, Jewish, Catholic, Islamic, Presbyterian...whatever religion is your faith, we have the need and right to exercise our religion. As a Catholic I’ve been denied my right to confession, to cleanse my soul should I die. I’ve been denied the right to receive Holy Communion. Dying Catholics have been denied opportunity anointing of the sick and Last Rites for those people in their final moments. Newborns have been denied the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Every year thousands of children make their First Holy Communion as well as others who make their Confirmation. Enough is enough is enough.
