It's a slow day in a small NC town and streets are deserted.. Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody is living on credit. A rich tourist drives through town, stops at the motel, and lays a $100 bill on the desk saying he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs to pick one for the night.

As soon as he walks upstairs, the owner grabs the bill and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the $100 and runs down the street to retire his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the $100 and heads off to pay his bill to his supplier, .the Farmer's Co-op

The guy at the Farmer's Co-op takes the $100 and runs to pay his debt to the local prostitute, who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer her "services" on credit.

The hooker rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill with the hotel owner.
The hotel proprietor then places the $100 back on the counter so the rich traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, states that the rooms are not satisfactory, picks up the $100 bill and leaves town.

No one produced anything. No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now out of debt and now looks to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the United States Government is conducting business today.

Grin works for me, and to think you have to go to Harvard to understand? One more way we could stop all this nonsense is All Americans file chapter 11 take the 90 day automatic stay so no business or citizen will have to pay any tax or interest and it would shut down the government complete in 90 days with no violence lol!!! uglystupid2

This was pretty good until the Hooker offering her services on credit.

No self respecting Hooker would do that.

When I was in college one of my college English professors had worked on a local task force on prostitution, a cross-department humanities project, and I remember her quoting local small town NC prostitute rates to the class. Fascinating what you could get for a Happy Meal. They more commonly were working for food than cash in the late 1990s. I have to assume that that is still the case, but I'm not going to slow down and ask.

That must have been wrote by a fast talking politician because the innkeeper is short the $100.

Actually the innkeeper is not out the $100 because he relieved himself of the $100 debt to his butcher.  Ain't life grand?

only until tht 100 bill was handed back to him as debt owed from the prostitute.......now it all works out even if the traveler incuurs a 100 tab at the inn.

Not when you realize the $100 was a deposit not a payment.  Everyone's out of debt and the deposit was returned.  Smoke and mirrors.

The thing is that nobody was actually into real debt.  Sure they each had a debt, but they also each had a credit that conveniently balanced out the debt.  So in reality, they all had a net worth of zero on the balance sheet.  In reality, this is usually not the case...because someone would have taken that $100 and not paid their debt. I agree, that is how it is supposed to work, instead they all pay the debt with a credit card, take the hundred they were payed and buy a new T.V. and then use another credit card to pay the 29% interest on the first card and make the payment late because they had to pay an installation fee to hook up cable to the new T.V.and incur TWO 50 dollar late payment fees. now they have maxed the cards so they can not pay the debt owed to the butcher, the farmer,Co-op ect... and now those businesses incur late fees as well because they could not pay the credit cards and banks. So every one except the hooker has to pay more taxes so the banks dont go broke from not collecting the late fees and 29% interest because the CEO of the bank already spent his bonus based on receiving those payments.
