Long story short I got given a '98 Valkyrie. Its been sitting a while, and there was an attempted carb rebuild, but at idle gas leaks out the carb overflow.
I pulled the carbs, have been doing a lot of reading but looking for some help or even just keywords to search for in my journey to get this beast running.
Is there a particular carb rebuilt kit that most use? Anything else I should do why the top is apart? I've been reading a lot about the stock petcock...looks like that'll need a change. Also desmog....need to touch on that subject a bit more but might make sense with airbox out and all.
Thanks in advance for any direction. This is my first venture into a cruiser...I've had a few bikes over the years, but they've all been CBR's

Thank you....I watched that....up until he starts taking the carbs apart. I want the replacement parts here by the time I start down that path. If they take a while to get here....I may not remember how they came apart I suffer from CRS

Be very organized. It’s a lot of tiny parts. I use baggies and plastic bowls for each carb and work on them one at a time. Take lots of pics before you tear into it. Keep all the removed parts separate for each carb (labeled) and make sure you have a replacement part in your kit. Springs, screws, jets, etc. For sure rebuild the fuel rail and petcock while you’re in there. All new fuel lines are a good idea. Desmogging is helpful to add room in there if you want to do something like cruise control later. Plugs and plug wires if you think you need them.

Once you get familiar with the layout of everything under the tank in a Valk, it won't seem so bad, but it is daunting at first. Egg cartons are good parts bins- everything's in multiples of 6- perfect. And some mirror pieces, cut into different shapes help a lot too. The one I use most is about 5/8" x 3", it's good for looking behind and under the carbs. You can take the sharp edge off with an eze-lap diamond hones. We'll be here when you need advice or opinions... for what those are worth
