Tomorrow I'm packing up and heading out to purchase my first Valkyrie a stock 2000 yellow standard but with aftermarket bags and windshield. The bike has 21,000 miles and original tires, the owner says it runs but needs carb work. I'm pretty sure I can do that. The tires I will defer to somebody else. What should I buy to have all the stuff I need to do the carbs and from where should I buy them? While I'm in there what else should I do?  Thanks in advance.

first off, do you really need to pull the carbs out, while it's a good idea, especially if they are ganged out, check out the post below, they are plenty great posts on this forum that can help you out!! especially if you know what you're doing!!  cooldude

Try the things mentioned first.  I did the carbs on a standard that had sat a few years ago and didn't change a whole lot of gaskets I think just the intake orings and the bowl gaskets and got them here.
https://redeye.ecrater.com/c/414983/carb-intake-seal-kits.  I also replaced the float valves,  I used these and they worked fine even though the aren't listed as being for a valk.  https://www.amazon.com/93-95-HONDA-CBR900RR-Float-Needle/dp/B001KOD732/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=float+valve+for+honda+valkyrie&qid=1590812656&sr=8-9

The oem float valve's go for $26 a piece.  Either way you want to replace them while your in there as a bad one can contribute to hydro lock.

Also this video series 9 or 10 parts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITyszhh4XHs

If I determine the carbs need pulling and thoroughly cleaned my plan would be to pull them from the bike but leave them attached to each other.
Here's my list so far from the links in the above posts. Which I should be able to get all from Red Eye.

float jets (valves)
shiny desmog kit
air filter
idle valve tool
intake o rings
float bowl cover gaskets
carb kit.....which one?
petcock rebuild kit

Am I missing anything or getting to much???

while I'm waiting on the parts

change all hydraulic oils
check valves and adjust if needed

In the D ray videos he mechanically syncs the carbs is that a reasonable way to sync them?

The jets, the air filter, petcock rebuild kit you'll have to get somewhere else. I've always had good luck just cleaning the jets. Others haven't. The mechanical syncing just gets you in the ball park. You should do a proper synch job when you've got it all back together and running.

I've got a digisync if you need it.  I check the sync on the carb back after I resembled and did the bench sync and it was perfect.  Didn't need to adjust a thing.

I posted this in another thread to but what the heck......just laid down my deposit until I can pick it up next weekend. 2000 Standard with 21,000 miles it took a lot of haggling to get at a price I can live with it is in absolute show room condition.

Congrats, nice looking Valk.  Did they have a luggage rack for it?

If you mean a rack behind the passenger rest then no but I certainly would like one.

These are pretty solid ones. (Not OEM though)

Good bike, I always liked the bumble bee look. It's does look real clean from your picture.

Are you intending on driving it home?

I don't know what you read in the link suggested, but if the bike runs, I always recommend to start with clean fuel and carb cleaner (I sound like a broken record), like Techron or Berryman's B12. Strong dose of it, like 1/2 can to half a tank. If the bike isn't running nice in an rpm range, then try to drive it in that range, up/down through it. Low rpm, lower speed and higher gear. High rpm, faster speed and lower gear.

It's a lot easier than doing an overhaul, and may not need it. Multi tanks, and maybe even a change of cleaner. After all, you're out there driving anyways.

Yes, Sir.  That's the best first step.

And, look to see if you have a tool kit with a screwdriver in it.  That's a JIS screwdriver and it looks like a Phillips.  It is a different than Phillips and geometry at the tip and is an exact fit for Honda screws.  You can buy JIS online.  A little pricey, but a good investment for a long-term owner.  (You may know this already).

Thanks for all the real good advice. I'll run some carb cleaner through it. It stumbles a bit at low RPM so I'm thinking the slow jets are gunked up.  JIS #2 and #3 should arrive tomorrow.

Yes, that rack will fit your bike and is a lot stronger than the factory one.

To late for that. I'm just waiting for the float valves to show to button her up. The only pictures that came out were of the wall and the top of my head.
