The charity we selected to raise funds for at Inzane this year is ABCCM's Veterans Restoration Quarters.  The organization provides housing to homeless veterans.  If you are unable to attend Inzane and would like to support the charity, we would welcome any donation.  Below is information regarding the organization that was sent to me yesterday from the director.

"ABCCM would like to welcome the Valkyrie Riders Club to Asheville.  We are honored to be selected as your Veterans charity for this year’s rally.  We look forward to offering you lunch and a tour of our Veterans men’s facility, which most find very inspiring.

ABCCM’s Veteran Restoration Quarters is a 250 bed transitional housing facility with 148 beds for homeless veterans, 32 emergency beds for Veterans, 20 beds for other homeless men and 50 permanent supportive housing units for Veterans.   The VRQ restores their lives through stabilization, life-skills training, education and job placement that lead to restoration and reintegration in permanent homes and living wage income.  AB Tech instructors provide Culinary & Hospitality classes on campus.  We also serve female Veterans and moms with children at our women’s facility called Transformation Village (currently 12 of 33 women are Veterans).

ABCCM is the largest private non-profit provider to homeless Veterans in the Southeast.  We also provide homeless prevention and employment and training services across 49 counties in North Carolina.  We operate a Veterans Call Center in order to offer a well-trained listening ear and crisis intervention service to reduce suicides and respond same day to a Veterans crisis so it is resolved as quickly as possible.  Most crises are resolved within 4.6 days.  Of the homeless Veterans we serve, 8 out of 10 leave us and never return to homelessness.  We know this because we follow up for two years upon exit.  We have been recognized as one of the best practices in the country by the national VA Department of Homeless Services in 2008 and by the US Department of Labor in 2012 for employment and training.  While we are a faith based organization, we serve everyone with respect and dignity and do not discriminate or impose a faith doctrine or creed, but are guided by those Scriptural principles for responsible and healthy living. In 2020, we will serve over 1000 homeless Veterans and 800 Veterans in crisis with grace and mercy that results in both short-term and long-term solutions to restore their lives."

They have been warned as to just how much we can eat, right?

Looks like a very worthy cause, can't wait to meet them, see the place and help them out!

(I can almost taste the pie already!)

Fantastic Lori. Looking forward to donating a portion of my dad's book sales to this charity. Dad would be proud to do it. See you next month...
