I was the last one to do this one as well. Been doing his wheel changes and final drive service for years now.

24K miles on this tire and he doesn’t believe in regreasing at 10K like I do.

Must say I was a little anxious but we cracked it open and the grease was as greasy and fresh looking as the the day it went in 24K miles ago. Splines were perfect and o-rings all still good. Pinion cup wet and greasy.

He won’t get 24K on this tire. Old one was an Avon this one I think is a Bridgestone

Was thinking I might try 15k on the Bullet this time.  That'll be a test of those fancy red Red-eye o-rings!  Gotta admit I'm no master mechanic and I really don't enjoy the process much.  Lips Sealed, especially using my squirrelly lift.  Bike looks like an elephant balancing on a bamboo tree up there!   I'd sure love to get a good lift one of these years...

All buttoned up. No surprises. I guess I’m weird or just done it so many times I’ve gotten to kind of enjoy the process

As long as you put a good amount of grease in the drive splines and not just a dab on the flange like the Honda dealer told me to do.....15K should be no problem

just checked mine @15k with the redeye o-rings. same amount of grease as 15k ago.

It seems good/new o-rings are the key.

Road surface matters.  Curves wear out your tires?  I've never seen a tire worn out on the edges with the center still good.   Smiley

Whatever the mileage is makes no difference to me. If it gets a tire it gets cleaned and greased, or, it used to.  I might have thought differently thou if I rode in the slop. The bike only saw rain a few times.

Redeye's seals and a new driveshaft seal, every time now.

This is why, and I ride in rain.

I was in the middle of a road trip when I checked my maintenance records and realized it has been 20K since I serviced my splines.  When I took the final drive off, splines looked good, but pinion cup holes were plugged and PC/DS splines were dry and red dust/worn.  I'll need a rear tires soon so I'll replace them then.

Only straight roads actually reduce mileage because you don’t use up all that free rubber on the edges. When you are hanging in a good curve you are not using the center of the tire that is used on straight roads.

The big difference as Carl pointed out is road surface. I guess our roads in Florida don’t have to have a sandpaper like surface to keep one from sliding off the mountain.

Lol. This comes up every time us Florida boys talk tire mileage. We don’t have fun roads like you guys up north, but apparently we have nice smooth ones. I always get over 20k on E3 tires and now I’m on Avon and seems to be going for approximately the same. The front last longer than the back.

If my back tire always wore out in less than 10K I would definitely go dark side. Now a days it takes me a little over two years to go 20K. So the price of M/C tires is not too painful.

Rich from Red-eye emailed me and stated the final drive o-rings are good for around 20k miles. A tire change adds to the wear.

The seals and o-rings we are dealing with for rear end service do not wear out from movement, everything turns together. They wear out due to time not miles. I find my OEM o-rings look fine for two tires. I pretty much change all of them every other tire change so for me that’s 40K miles.

Could someone point me to Redeye/Red-eye rear drive seals?
Did a search and all I can find are Valk shock bushings and brake pistons.
Thnx
