I've got a 98 standard that I put a mustang seat on earlier this spring. Went to take it off today to get the wrench and adjust the shocks but the lock won't disengage. The key is working cause I can hear the mechanism under the seat moving but the seat won't come up using muscle or finesse.
Any tips or tricks?

Try pushing down on the seat as you turn the key.

Ya, did that but to no avail. It's not tight under there as there is a little up and down play to the seat. The mechanism is working ( i can hear it moving) but it seems like it's not disengaging quite enough to release it.

Dont know had 3 mustang seats and never had an issue. Try pushing back on nose of seat or pushing forward on rear.

I guess it's possible...I'm hearing something moving under the seat when I operate the key. It's a head scratcher for sure!

Try using a long thin screwdriver, remove the left side cover and push the spring loaded catch till the the seat pops up.

I have 98 standard with mustang seat.  Never been a problem in the 10 years I have had it.  A few times I have had to hold the front of the seat down while turning key but that is all.

I think the seat latch sticking (or not working) is not specific to particular seats (including Mustang).

It happens.

Before I fiddled and lubed my seat latch, I had taken to getting on the bike seat before turning the key.

Try using a long thin screwdriver, remove the left side cover and push the spring loaded catch till the the seat pops up.

I had to bend my long skinny screwdriver and works well.

Try using a long thin screwdriver, remove the left side cover and push the spring loaded catch till the the seat pops up.

And be gentle removing the cover. Pull straight out from the back. There are 2 grommets. Then gently tilt the cover forward until it becomes obvious you can slide the tab free from its slot.

BE GENTLE.
