i will be up in the Colorado Rockies next month..will the altitude affect my carbs?

thinner air means the carbs will go richer.  turn the idle mixture screws close by half a turn, pretty sure that is what the manual states.
 somebody else with more altitude experience should post soon.

I never changed anything. Been from sea level to over 11K feet. Ran great.

I've ridden all over Colorado.  RMNP, Pikes Peak, Independence Pass, Million Dollar Hwy.  I never had a problem with my carbs on my Valk.  I'm just above sea level in Arkansas.   If anything I run a little rich at home according to my plugs.  Might notice a very slight power loss at extremely high altitudes.  Just my experiences.  Ride safe.

+1 it will run fine the MPG may drop a bit but it will run fine

Don't touch a a thing. I could tell there was a loss of power riding up Mt. Evans.

Use 85 octane while you are riding up and down the peaky bits.

These carburetors are constant velocity carbs that should to a very large extent self-adjust to different air densities at different altitudes. That's under conditions above idle; idle is just a fixed setting. But presumably you don't expect to leave it idling a lot, and it'd be surprising that altitude would throw your idle completely out of whack. Ride and enjoy.

I believe all internal combustion engines lose power at higher elevation.  That is pretty much a fact.  Our Valks are no different.  Just figure you have less power when you go to go around a slow poke.

I live at 4K elevation, ride up to 7'  every so often.  I do notice the reduction in power, but then when I ride down to 2K or less also notice the difference.   Grin

Just leave your carbs alone (as mentioned above) and enjoy the country side.

If you're passing through, do nothing. If you are riding in an area of different elevation, then buy fuel locally.

Check the pumps, the Octane of fuel grades will change based upon local conditions.

Riding from Vancouver BC sea level, all the way to Spearfish/Billings InZanes, never had issues with the bike. Fuel would have been replaced every 200 miles on those trips, with local riding for the week in those areas.
