Dr. Cade, the guy who made it at U of F lived up the street from my wife's aunt.  She told us he was always inventing new things and trying it out on the neighborhood kids.  He also made a special sucker for her diabetic cousin. 
I saw Dr. Cade while I was at the eye doctor one day when he was older.  He handed the person at the counter his checkbook so they could write one out and for him to sign.  She didn't provide any details, but was amazed at his checkbook balance.
