I rode my 1500 yesterday. I just got back from bush-hogging with
the 8N a few minutes ago. They're very different  Wink ... the Valkyrie
is pipey, like a 125 motocross bike, compared to the 8N. The 8N has
like 24 horsepower... way before the Valkyrie-8N ever got up to
full speed wide-open in 4th gear, I'd probably jump off! The 8N
isn't syncromesh, you'd have to start in 4th to use 4th, maybe
you'd have to start off down hill...

An interesting application.

My BIL is into railroad Speeders, the old transportation the work crews used to ride on the rails.   He has a couple of them.   All that I have seen use a twin cylinder engine but no transmission, uses a belt drive system.   Although they do travel both forward and backward, to get them to go the direction you want, you start the engine normally for forward or crank it backwards to go back. He recently bought another version but the engine was shot.   My guess is the correct engine was around 10 to 15 horses.  I happen to have a Valkyrie engine sitting in my shop at the time and offered it to him.   Although somewhat interested, we didn't think there was room of the flat six and it would have taken a lot of "Southern Engineering" to make it work.

He found another engine and now has three operational Speeders.   I'm still waiting on an opportunity to ride along with him on the rails.

I had seen that a few years ago when it was first posted.  That would be a hoot at parades.  I have a 1972 International Cub with a belly mower that I use to keep the ditches looking good.  Pretty sure it is around 9 or 10 HP.  Another torque master.

not a bad deal for a show tractor, but is too pretty to do any dirty work with it in the fields, etc.

Thats a nice looking old Ford and the price seems comparable to a Funk conversion of the same 'prettyness'. It would be nice to own but I sure wouldn't work it.
