anyone else have a PO Box in their town ONLY open 12:30 to 430 p.m. Monday thru Friday and 930 a.m. to 1130 a.m. on Saturday to get to their PO BOX to get their mail?  I went last Friday after 5 p.m. work to get my moms mail in nearby town some 13 miles or so away since do not get but once possibly twice per month to pay bills, etc.  is all.  to find out WAS CLOSED.

I called and they said due to riot concerns this will stay in effect until who knows when came from federal POST OFFICE.  Rioting?  Where?  in a small rural town of 1000 people?  I think the govt. needs to re-think their ways if they think rioting is all over this nation in rural small town America.  Nearest rioting is in Madison WI some 35 miles away and not like them crazy folks up there would see a need to riot the post office in small town nowhere close.

So,  I will be letting her mail pile up over 1 month so as to NOT fit inside her small PO Box and NOT pay her bills if they think I will adjust my schedule for ONLY 2 hours the entire week on a Saturday morning is all to get her mail.   tickedoff

I also emailed the federal govt. and created a case number so I will be on their watch list pretty much said what I said above to wake up quit being brain dead.....   uglystupid2

I figure calling them out like that in an email outta get a knock on my door from a federal FBI official right?   crazy2

Well for the last two or three years our small rural post office has only been open M-F mornings until noon.  Budget cuts and all.  The young lady or ladies since there have been a few have to drive here every day for just half days work.  Makes no sense to me.  Oh and she also has to drive here on Saturday to put up the mail but can not open for business.  Go figure.

Post office in my small suburb is open 24/7/365, office 8;00 to 5;00  M/F, S, till noon.
I went paperless on all my bills and for the past 18 years I take all out going to post office as my carrier delivers my mail all over my street and I get others mail all the time too. Been complaining to Postmaster General for 19 years to no avail.

not talking about post office one on one contact do not even get me started with them getting in my town a 4 hour lunch break with ONLY 2 hours in morning and few hours in afternoon of service if needed no Saturdays either.

just that the LOBBY where the post office boxes are kept have for past 50 years of my life been open 24/7 all the time as they should be to get our mail in the small PO BOX.  now to restrict for me 2 hours of my Saturday morning is insane since usually get around to going over once per month on a late Saturday afternoon or more like a Sunday.  I also just paid their rip off PO BOX yearly fee of 56 bucks so it costs me (actually my mom) about for 12-15 yearly visits to the Post office just to get her mail 56 bucks the equivalent of around 4 bucks per visit, such a crock.  NO idea what a stamp costs nowadays either but am sure around 56 cents each or so, not sure really?    I remember for a long time weren't stamps around 25-30 cents each?

shoot, they might as well close up shop for good they are pretty much worthless anyways.
why should the federal govt. dictate a rural small town on hours being open?  just like my boss, the federal govt. is insanely clueless. 2funny

Well #1 the USPS is run by a contractor not the fed government. #2 cookie have her mail sent to your house.  And save that $56.

if your place and am sure others in the United States are open 24/7 to get their mail,  then how can the USPS severely restrict our small rural town post office hours?  What riots?  Where?  is a town of 1000 people all white?  but it has 5 bars down main drag 50 yard downtown road....  someone somewhere is not clearly thinking at all.      if is not run by the federal govt. but contractor   why then did the other post office who runs our smaller post office tell me it came from federal govt.?    One would think it would be nationwide closed down hours to get to your post office box?    I bet 80% even in my moms small town work outside of that town MOnday thru Friday when open only 4 hours during the day and near now have to get their mail ONLY once per week Saturday when open outside door not locked for 2 whole fricking hours.

Do the change of address form at the Post office, then on all mail that comes to your Mom notify them of the change of address.

And yes, I know about small town Post office hours - My NC address was in Youngsville - a town of maybe 600-1000 people about 8 miles north of Wake Forest. We were one of the first to lose saturday afternoon hours. They had gotten a new building about 5 years before we left - it was designed so the lobby access for post office boxes was 24/7/365. I was getting rural carrier delivery.

Same here, Dad's mail goes to my Brother.  Dad thinks he does better with taxes and medications having a NY address even though he lives in Florida.  I did the math and he's wrong, but no arguing with an 84 man at this point.

My Brother, Andrew, is a mail carrier in rural NY.  He works the early mornings in the post office doing his sorting and such.  He and other carriers work in these "U" shaped shallow aisles and they closed off behind them an on the sides with clear plastic SHOWER CURTAINS.

He works with a plastic shower curtain surrounding him.  He HATES it.  And says the smell of the plastic sucks.  He already took all of his allotted time off because of all this crap.  He says it's very stressful.

After speaking to him about this, we gave out carrier, Vito, a "mid-year" tip for putting up with all this and delivering our mail and packages without a hiccup up my cliff of a driveway every day.

Cookie, I agree with what was said above about having your Mom's mail sent to your home.   Its a hassle but well worth it.  Did have issues with my Dad's pension folks, took a while to find the right person to talk to.  BUT in the end all her mail comes to my home, while she is living in an assisted living place.

Never considered using a PO Box for her mail.

well,  no FBI agents came to my house today taking my guns away.   Grin

however, I sent to federal USPS a complaint and WOW,  got a phone call back from local post office stating she agrees is horrible and does not agree being 2 hours on a weekday morning is all to get mail.  She is having mtg. today with big idiot shots who said there has been rioting in other cities at Post offices closer to yuppie Madison WI area but nothing in rural Green County hicktowns of 1000 or less population villages.   She even called and then emailed me telling me it should not last too long and will email me back when it gets lifted hopefully in next 1-2 weeks, assuming no idiot riots anymore post offices that is.

See,  pays to email or talk to someone in charge who can relay the information to the federal idiots making decisions for the pions like us plain folks in small towns.

same can be said to get involved if you do not like the way things are run,  complain and bitch to the local village board members of which I have done know a few in this one horse town or govt. even though usually falls on deaf ears.

thought about transferring all her bills and other semi-important places to my address but the minute I do that, I will miss something and never get it.

Cookie, as I said i just went thru this with my Mom.    Used a changed of address procedures with the USPO,  took about 3 months for all of it to come up.   Even had to make calls to some places with Mom sitting beside me to get the job done.   The change of address process will go for a full year, so you shouldn't miss anything.   Take a good look at your Mom's financial stuff, Medicare, and SS that's the important stuff.  It is well worth it once its done.

As a funny, sort of, portion, Mom had owned a home  some 80 miles away.   There was an issue with the towns water department.   Seems the folks who bought her home, didn't contacted the water folks when the took ownership of the house.   I was getting bills for the water, even after several calls telling them we no longer were responsible.   Finally  sent them back a bill with a nice letter detailing me notifying them of the change and if I heard from them again would consider contacting local lawyer.   That was three months ago, haven't heard from them since then.   tickedoff

yah,  was hoping to get her house sold but hoarding galore is going to take awhile just do not feel like it where to begin?  should have sold the house last year now doubt this year?  Not like worth a ton guessing 70K at an auction sale no way over 80K is valued though at 85K.  I guess that 70K  will pay for almost 2 years of assisted living expense?  gotta get er dun before she runs out of money though that is for sure.

wow,  that is a lot of open hours at your post office for business.  My hometown only open for business like 2 hours in morning and 2 hours in afternoon and about 2 hour or so lunch break they are closed I guess govt. officials need 2 hours daily to take a nap.  Then, to throw in my moms post office next town over 13 or so miles away still not even open to get to your post office box outside door entirely locked only 4 hours MOnday thru Friday which does me no good and ONLY 2 hours Saturday morning is all vs. was 24/7 open all the time the past 50 years of my existence.

You try telling me where you live in NY is LESS rioting going on than our 1000 population small rural midwest towns and I got some land to sell you on the moon....   2funny

ONLY rioting going on will be all us 1000 white folks breaking the post office box window or door also made of glass to get to our post office box.   coolsmiley

had off today so went to get my moms mail at her post office since open noon to 4 weekdays and no luck they are still only open outside door 2 hours in morning is all weekends.  Her PO box was cramped full 1 month worth of mail almost.  Since the part time post office lady had no clue on when her superiors would lift the ban on hours open,  I went to the local police officer in town.  He just found out himself over 1 month now so not like he knows much but I gave him my cell phone number and he said was going to call post office in big city Madison who probably put the restricted hours in all areas and see if he can get a key made to the outside door only and open at say 8 a.m. and lock outside door at 8 p.m. weekends.  He agrees never ever a riot in that 1100 population town and will probably never will be over this BLM or pandemic.
