Nice ride over the newly paved Cottonwood Pass today.  This could be a new favorite local ride for me!  Beautifully surveyed sweepers mixed with some sneaky hairpins to keep ya on your toes.  The pavement is smooth as glass by Colorado standards, with no potholes or tar snakes as of yet.  The ride brings ya up and over timberline with some really fantastic views along the way.  Came upon some 10' high snowbanks on the roadside up there.  About 80° and very little wind today, for once.   cooldude

Ruby (love) on Cottonwood today.  You can (maybe) see why I'm not thrilled with the replacement trunk's color match after being rear ended last summer.  It's much more noticable when seen up close.  I still haven't decided if I'll persue a repaint or just grin and bear it.  When I'm smiling through the twisties I don't think about the trunk's color much.  coolsmiley

Is it paved down the other side to Taylor Park Trading Post and Tincup? Came up from Tincup west to east number of years ago and it was gravel from Tincup to the pass and paved going down the other side to Buena Vista.

Cottonwood is now paved all the way to the Trading Post.  The"Taylor" side is nice, new road and it's great riding.  Tincup Pass is still considered 4x4.

No better feeling than riding on new pavement on curvy mountain roads....unless it's riding on new pavement on curvy mountain roads with new tires. If it's any consolation, I dont think the trunk looks bad at all in terms of paint colour match....but then again I've gone to work some days unknowingly wearing different colour socks, so there's that  Wink
Nice photo...Colorado is next on my list for US rides. I've been there for work, but for some reason we've never ventured there on the bike even though we've been close in Wyoming  and Utah. Maybe next year if things get back to half ways normal.

C'mon down, Mike.  I'd enjoy showing you around some of the passes and "hidden gem" roads!

I completely understand your consternation with the trunk paint. It would bother me. I don't remember if you took it back for them to see ?

In the pic it looks close to the '01 maroon color.

Still thinking how I'm going to approach him.  I know he won't be interested in a "free" $600 redo.  I know I won't be happy with a partial cashback discount.  I know he is a businessman and doesn't t want to take a loss.

I think I'll propose that they consider a half price (or less) paint redo.  If they will, I may bring it in this fall.  It's riding season now, and riding season here is short and sweet.

I think that's more than fair. I would think any reputable painter wouldn't want his work shown like that.

I’m sorry I would have to have it done over.
If you have a redo I would make sure you get a paint chip.  I had our local go to painter here in Florida who is just an amazing painter, paint an IS tank and all tins including two tone side covers in the stock 1999 Black Orange color and shipped to Lill-Hege and Raymond in Norway but before the paint hit the tins the color hit the paint chip and I sent it in an envelope to Singerfjord so they could put on their Valk and make darn sure it was the right thing.   Shipping the tins was cheap but it took 5 weeks on the water. That was the slow boat!

am sure it looks o.k. from a distance, but me being color blind,  hard to tell but looks fine to me, but maybe a tad bit darker than the rest of the paint on the bike?

is it a darker red?

The trunk has more coppery brown in it than the OEM paint, which is that Pearl Cheyenne Red (which is red but not fire engine).  Real obvious up close in sunlight but didn't really show up in that pic.

Thing is, I did bring in a chip from the accident, and rode Ruby by his shop beforehand so they could snap pictures of her.  Oh yeah, I also gave him the Honda paint code from under the left side panel cover.  I still don't quite get how they goofed.  It's in the right area of the color spectrum but it's a fail.

I had a local body shop fix the scratches and repaint my top right luggage cover a few months ago.  The one damaged when it fell over onto a curb on the Darby memorial ride last fall.  Color is pearl sonoma green.  I compared it to the other side cover when I picked it up.  I could see a very slight difference in darkness but man it was slight.  I accepted it because I was comparing brand new paint to paint that is 24 years aged in the sun (though indoor kept, as far as I know).  Other than that it was perfect.  And better be, in my estimation $350 to paint (and repair deep scratches) of just the bag cover is almost overpriced.

Gonna have to be sure to ride that next time I'm in the area.  Been wanting for them to pave Cottonwood a long time.
