I need new tires for my 1998 standard.  When I looked there were far too many brands.  I would appreciate any suggestions. I am not an aggressive rider but I do want tires with good grip and an nice ride.  Thanks Dennis C.

I've worn out over 50 tires, and I like Avon the best.  The latest version is the Cobra Chrome.  I think their rebate is still running.

Avon, Bridgestone, and Shinko's are the top 3 radial MC tires for the most part for the Valks. There are two Bridgestone Exedras, Exedra & Exedra Max. I've used the Max (bias) on a 1600 Vulcan and my son is the new owner and has nothing but good to say about them but using radials, can't say. Presently running Cobra's but may be going back to Exedras and/or CT for the rear.

The cobra bike is going full Cobra Chrome as soon as I can wear out this stubborn front tire

By now, you know the correct sizes.  I recently saw a good price on a rear tire, but after reading the description, it was not a radial.

Every owner will have a favorite pair of tires.  Replacing old tire X with Y may give awesome results.  This month, replacing X with X gave awesome results.  Obviously new is greater than worn out.

When the factory-installed tires wore out, I bought Bridgestone.  The Exedra radial tire has been satisfactory, so I stick with them.  There is no method for me to determine if something is better or worse.

Thanks everyone for your comments.  I'm getting a 98 standard back on the road that has been parked for a few years.  It has Avon Cobra tires on it now, the from is 10 years old and back 6 years old.  They both look good but I'm concerned and replace the front at a minimum.  I'm seeing bias and radial tires, is radial the best choice.  I've ran Avon in the past, the Cobra Chrome is going to be my choice.  Thanks

Hello Dennis.  Honda designed the bike to run on radial tires.  I figure their Engineering department knows more about motorcycles than little ole me.  So, I follow their recommendations on this.

I've run several Metzelers and they make a very good tire.  The Avons have given me slightly better mileage.

FWIW, I'm a fan of Revzilla... they price match and free ship, and you get credit on your purchase.
CycleGear and RevZilla are co-owned, so you can take the wheels to CycleGear, show your Rezvilla receipt and have them mounted for $25 a piece..

That is good to know, I just spent a small fortune having a local shop do my other bike...
