I've been thinking of doing something like this to my I/S

Not sure if anyone makes them anymore and can't quite see how they attach.  When I look at my forks I don't see any mounting tabs or holes.  I figure I can always make my own plastic and possibly use fork clamps to attach them.  Just wondering if anyone here has any source or pics of how they are mounted.

I've seen those on Valks, but do not know where to get them.

Most of us have Baker Air Wings, which are still available and easily found.  Not inexpensive, but I love mine.  Here is their web site.  http://bakerbuiltairwings.com/

In the picture, they attach to a round crosspiece mounted under the tree, and then the three screws each side on the flat down legs.  That mount came with the original smaller fork wings, and new larger ones have been made/cut to fit the existing mount.

Most (many) Interstates have short wings under fairing too (on each side), and (I think) those are missing in this picture.

They look like the Big Bike Things ones I have on my bike. I didn't
check first, but they're probably still available...

Those air deflectors look like the ones that come from Big Bike Things, and cost $130.00

The ones on the red interstate are the Honda aftermarket. (I have them on both my interstates)

The BBTs ones are different, but may still be available.

Once you get a mount, you can make any size plastic you want for that mount.

The set that you have pictured is attached using two bolts to the bottom of the triple tree.

How do they work Jess.  Right now I have no complaints about airflow but it could always be a little better, especially when it gets cold.

Ramie, it's hard to tell you how they work as I have the fork wings (normal smaller ones) and faring deflectors (and big fairings with the vents plugged up so I don't eat strained bugs) on both interstates.  I mean, I never take them off.  I suppose it controls some air coming up under the fairing and over the tank, but I cannot say how much.  I wear half helmets (not spaceman helmets).

If I was you, I'd try to find some used ones on Pinwall or Ebay, mainly for the mounts and then if the plastic is bad you can try and make your own replacements (one set I have was clearly cut by my previous owner who was not that good with a skill saw).  My experience is the plastic in the aftermarket Honda add-on wind deflectors (also the windshield wings) was very soft and scratched easily and fogged up with age and use.

I looked through Ebay and they had some original used Honda line fork deflectors for a little over 200 but decided to go with the BBT, they had them for $15 off.  Thanks for all the feed back, I'll try and remember to post back here on install and how they work.

The ones in the pic are Hondaline accessory for all models of the Valkyrie.  They mount under the triple clamp by removing the two 12 mm nuts.  They are still out there but hard to find.  Most show rust and need to be rechromed.

from what I have thought not having them, the front fork deflectors only help with blocking airflow up over the tank of which I never minded to begin with even if 35 degrees out.  However,  if they blocked the wind off my knees on cold days it would be worth it but I think baker airwings do that instead.

Rifle fairing makes them, I ordered some back late last year, it took them about 2 months to make them, but the are of excellent build. And the do help knock down turbulence.

Made mine from aluminum stock, less than 10.00 in materials.. solved a buffeting problem I was having. My bike's not ugly by any means, and certainly no showpiece.
I could polish the aluminum but really don't care, it looks fine and does the job. In fall I may make some lowers for cold weather riding.

Finally got my air deflectors from BBT, all the way from New Zealand so I had to check them out.  Beautiful day low 80's not humid nice and sunny with a slight breeze so naturally after I took a spin to check them out they worked well and it was so nice I just kept riding the back roads.  Four hours later I'm finally home.  I could have kept going but had to feed the dogs and let them out as the wife is working the evening shift at the hospital.

For those of you who need to know I thought the deflectors were well worth the money, I didn't have  a big problem before as the faring does an excellent job but there was just enough breeze in the wrong place that I wanted something and these work.

One other comment, every time I take this bike out for an extended ride I remember why I love it so much.  Comfortable, quick, smooth and nimble, I envy those who went to InZane and got to appreciate their rides for a week or more getting there then home.  Hopefully I'll make it next year.

I'm glad they turned out to be all you hoped they'd be.

Hope to see you next year.  I hope we're able to keep having InZanes.   Wink
