#BREAKING: Country music star and strong conservative Charlie Daniels has died after suffering a stroke at age 83 (whose columns have been published for years at @NewsBusters's sister site @CNSNews) pic.twitter.com/m3bph1PwhB

Pays to be ready when a stroke comes a calling. Charlie probably still had some plans for the future. He will be missed by many.

I'm sure there is a loss in Charlie's passing.  Did he ride a Valkyrie?  Did he even ride a motorcycle?

I know there are a lot of us aged enough that have a tendency to browse the obits every day but do we really need to share the passings of all the persons who have been in the news?  Really?

I apologize to the offended.  I'm just in a pissy mood over a few things today.   Angry

Maybe maybe not but I’m sure a lot of us on this board listened to his music, and I’m not on a lot of the social media nor have cable or satellite. So sometimes these boards is how I hear about things. And I’m right there with you about moods it’s been a week here ready for some good news....

Willow, now this brings up a very interesting question, that you just hit the nail right on the head with.  As with this post, you asked if Charlie rode a Valkyrie or even a motorcycle? How about all the political posts that are shared every day? Do any of the politicians (Posts) that dominate the board ride?
Would this not fall into that same category?
Not trying to wiz in your Cornflakes here, however I feel that the passing of Charlie Daniels in the same line as, do we have to share everyone's political views on a motorcycle forum?
A lot of good folks do not frequent the board anymore or a seldom visitors due to all the politics that are practiced here every day.

At least the topic heading made it perfectly clear what the thread was about, allowing anyone uninterested to skip it for the next topic.

Not being a country music fan, the only song of Charlie Daniels' I could name is, The Devil Went Down to Georgia.

I've always considered this forum to be an informal gathering of friends that happen to like Valkyrie motorcycles discussing whatever is to be discussed, much like the little groups that gather at the end of the day at Inzane or other get togethers.

If this is no longer the case please update the Rules of the Road and I will modify my posting behavior appropriately.

I wasn't addressing just this thread.  It's just that everytime a public figure dies we get a so and so is gone post like no one else is able to get the news.

It was a question.  Yes, Ice, I agree.  Yes, Serk, it is.  If we were sitting around talking and you said, "By the way, Charlie Daniels died," I would likely reply, "So, the Devil went down to Georgia again?"

You all talk about what you want to talk about.  I'll make it through this.

83?  I don't reckon I'll go that far.

Sounds like someone needs a hug.

I'll do my part in remedying that situation next week, if acceptable.

I find out a lot of my daily news of what has happened in this world by frequenting this forum.  I feel we have a hugely educated and diverse set of skills and knowledge to share amongst us including the daily news.   I do agree though on the political side is way too frequented and posted IMO.

RIP Charlie!   Cry

I sometimes miss the good old time country music of when I was a kid vs. the hip hop, rap, rock or POP country music they sometimes play nowadays.  One music station locally plays oldies from the 70s and 80s mostly and like listening to that old timers country music a lot more as I age since have not heard those songs in decades and brings me back to a time when life was simpler.  A few names come to mind like Johnny Cash,  Waylon Jennings, Charlie Pride, Loretta Lynn, Tanya Tucker, Tammy Wynette, and Patsy Cline, to name just a few.

My Sister's first husband was a fishing guide.  Charlie was a customer and she got him to sign her guitar while he was there.  She also said that he was just a regular guy.

Another artist I really enjoyed over the years.  Guess I've always liked the "flip sides" and deep cuts off most artists more than some of their overplayed radio hits.  The Ballad of Curtis Loew, Damn Good Cowboy, The South's Gonna Do It, Mississippi, Caballo Diablo and Everything is Kinda Alright come to mind.  Thanks for the fun Charlie.  RIP.

Loved Charlie Daniels, must have seen him about 4 times, mostly outside. Loved the deep cuts from, million mile reflections, saddle tramp, full moon, nightrider, and of course, fire on the mountain! Southern rock at it’s finest! RIP Charlie

RIP Sir Charles. Grew up with the country/rock bands of that time era. These bands were responsible for "mating" to distinctive styles of music into one that had a great following. CD brought a lot of Patriotism to the front long before Toby Keith era became the norm for CW crowd. God Bless him.
