Just a silly thought I had, with Inzane being next week, and different folks having different comfort levels for social interactions with others in the current circumstances, maybe if we come up with a common system? Maybe little stickers of green (Bring it on in for a hug!) yellow (Sure, love to chat with ya', just keep your hands to yourself) and red (Love to chat, but keep your distance) to avoid any hurt feelings or misunderstandings?

Maybe I'm making something out of nothing, just a thought I had that might could avoid any misunderstandings?

What do ya'll think?

Great idea, Serk.

Bring the stickers and we'll wear them on our foreheads.

We're down to 178 still listed.  I expect there will be several who simply won't show up.  Those of us that are there are going to have a good time no matter how different and informal it may be.

I won't tell Kali you said that, she's already pretty freaked out about her first run through US129 in the driver's seat...

Hold your thanks until you've had the experience.  It will be the most unique InZane anyone has attended.  It's been fraught with challenges and denials.   Roll Eyes

Truthfully by definition an atheist says there is no God.  To know for certain that there is NO God one would have to search and know  everywhere in the universe and beyond, a task one could not accomplish unless he was actually an all knowing omnipresent god.  At that point the atheist would be arguing that he himself does not exist.   Smiley

Slow and steady. Keep away from the center line. Stop at pull offs and watch and learn. It's worth it.

Cherohala. Don't get distracted by the view. Stop at the overlooks. There are plenty so you can relax and view.

Pay attention to the few reducing radius bends! They can bite hard.

I’m not a big hugger with people I’m not real close with.  But I instinctively put out my hand for a greeting with friends. Usually afterwards I have wondered if I have made them uncomfortable doing so. It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  Smiley

I debated long and hard on whether or not I was coming. Especially as I may have to quarantine my self when I get home. 1 week of Inzane may cost me 3 weeks of vacation.  I am not a huger on normal times and have health issues, so I guess I would be between yellow and red. (I won't ask for orange haha). That being said I would not hesitate to give a hug if it was needed. I think many of us instinctively put out our hand so please don't be offended if I do, I have gotten fairly quick at bringing it back when I realize I'm doing it. Thanks again to the staff for all your hard work overcoming what I'm sure was a mountain of challenges. See everyone in a couple of days.

Cherohala. Don't get distracted by the view. Stop at the overlooks.

The overlooks are generally at big curves at the tops of hills. It doesn't
pay to zoom through those particular curves as there's likely to be
people you can't see coming from the other direction focused solely
on crossing your lane to get to the overlook...

And for the record I was sincere in this post, not a joke...

A local scotch tasting group I'm in, that's more of a fraternity than anything else, had a get together recently, and several folks said they wouldn't be coming because they know how huggy of a group we are; someone got some color coded bracelets to wear so that we could easily and quickly ascertain each other's comfort levels and respect them accordingly.

Some of the hesitant folks changed their mind and came after that idea was presented, so figured I'd toss it out here as well... (Wish I'd done so earlier so logistically it could have been handled, but better late than never I 'spose...)

Kali and I will be headed out Thursday or Friday, haven't decided which yet, depends on how the spousal unit's surgery goes tomorrow. Taking several days to make the under 1000 miles, don't wanna wear the kid out, and looks like it's gonna be a hot humid ride, don't wanna wear the old man out either...

Taking this discussion far further than it was intended to go, but another angle is what would meet our definition of a God? Even to a pure Atheist, it's conceivable that there exist, in some distant galaxy advanced beings, perhaps even a Kardashev Type III civilization that have themselves evolved into beings of pure energy.

That civilization would meet most people's definition of Gods, or at least God-like beings, thus proving that the Atheist was incorrect.

So yeah, pure Atheism has no appeal to me at all.....

Of course you know this, but the single best safety factor for Kali's ride is running behind a leader who takes it easy, rides the outside so she stays inside, points out all approaching hazards, and who generally leads by good example.

One of the things I had to do leading a novice wife was to be watching my mirrors and taking action whenever I saw she was being tailgated by drivers unwilling to pass us both at the same time, but not unwilling to tailgate her at unsafe distances.  And constant mirror watching wasn't always so good for my safe riding either.

Another phenomenon that happened somewhat often, was woman drivers (often with women passengers) who took great interest in a female rider, and just decided to pace and watch (behind or beside) her, but too long and too close.

You may already do this too, but another good idea is to have a plan for her to beep the horn three quick beeps to get your attention if there is something she want's to communicate with you. (I don't know if you guys are connected by radio)

Keep up the fluids on long days.

And I sure hope the wife's surgery goes as planned Serk.

Luckily since Kali lacks the male dangly bits and thus the male testosterone she also doesn't have the bravado that goes along with it, and has absolutely no issue riding her own ride, pulling over to let others pass, etc...

Besides getting her used to some real roads, that was also part of the reason I took her up into the Arkansas/Oklahoma mountains 2 weeks ago, to observe how she reacted.

We've agreed we'll both ride our own rides, I will NEVER make a turn without her there, and even if we get separated much beyond visual distance I'll pull over and wait, then resume.

We have bike to bike comms which are a game changer. And yes, I'm constantly warning her of approaching issues, oncoming trucks that have dirty wind, things in the road, bad bumps, inattentive drivers, etc.... And also observing and correcting her technique, especially her inability to cancel a turn signal after making a turn...

First of all, it's awesome to have a young daughter who likes to hang with Dad and his friends in the first place, and enjoys the same passion (s). While my daughters never got into motorcycling, we did everything else together including my other (and now their) passions....fishing and music. They're 33 and 31 now with families and lives of their own in different parts of the Province, but we  still call or text each other pretty much every day to to talk about these passions and when we do manage to get together, enjoy them together just like we did when they were younger.
The fact that your daughter is riding the same bike as you and obviously isn't shy about chancing  things out on the open road with you,  can only intensify the bond you have and will have as she grows into adulthood.  As far as you're concerned, it has to be equally exhilerating and terrifying for you at the same time, heading out on a road trip like this....best thing in the world, being a Dad. Enjoy InZane cooldude
