Are you going to see Britman in Clayton? If so, can I ask when?

Hi Britman and BigBF...

I have to work tomorrow and Friday and Carolyn is
at her mother's so I'm not going to try and get my
bike to Clayton... it is in better shape than ever after
a bunch of maintenance I did last September, but
the timing belts are still 23 years old and have
100,000 miles on them  coolsmiley ...

And Bill does a great job of rebuilding (rather than buying new) the pulley tensioners, which may be more important than the belts.

I had 147,000 on my Standard when they were replaced.  They looked a few weeks old.  I don't think they wear out at 100,000.

Still cheap to replace timing belt than fix the engine... Better than regret it.

As to regrets, Bill, have there been any reports of anyone experiencing a timing belt in use breaking?  I do think I waited longer than I should've at 147,000 but I wouldn't advise getting panicked at 100,000.   Smiley

I just had mine done due to age and my mechanic said they looked pretty shiny and was probably a good call changing them...

My 2001 Valk recently turned 100,000 and is currently at Honda of Houston getting new timing belt.   Also they were to replace brake pads on front and they called me yestetday and said the right front brake wasnt working at all and probly hasnt been for a while.    I told them to fix it.     I never noticed a difference.

At InZane a couple of years ago Daniel Meyers had a belt that had failed.  Other than where it fasiled, the belt looked fine.
