They're reliable and inexpensive. I looked at one decades ago, at the time they were being manufactured in India. Not sure if they still are.
EDIT:
Looking at the picture, it was the Bullet I was considering. The INT650 has sleeker lines, IMO. I'm finding that Himalayan kinda interesting.

Man did I lust after a super rat when I was a 14 year old kid in the mid seventies. Use to be a common bike at our local flat track race track in Geneva, NY. Fond memories indeed! Thanks Meathead

I have to check out the new Royal Enfield 650 twin. Mine is 736cc from 1965. Advertised to go from 20 to 120 mph in top gear. Stopping it is another matter. The 1960's version assumed owners had real mechanical skills. The engine must be partially disassembled to adjust the timing. All British fasteners, tools, taps and dies are required. And a magneto, to boot. But... it is rugged construction and 52 horsepower.
A modern version of the Enfield twin should be a fun bike to own. All the characteristics you want, eliminating those you don't.

Me too. It was more expensive than the Yamaha LT-2 100 cc "enduro" bike I ended up getting. A couple of years later I got a TM-125 just a few months before 125 Elsinores came out ... -Mike

I've liked and worked on a lot of English stuff. So I like the old Enfields, don't know about the new ones though. Anyone that has worked on many English made anythings has their share of Whitworth tools.

Not familiar with Kenny Swanson's. The track we went to was (is) called paradise speedway. My dad would take me & a buddy as kids. He’d drink beer and we’d drink hot chocolate (memories). The place would draw quite a crowd and contributed to my life long addiction to motorcycles.

Same place. Kenny named the place. I forget when he sold it, but, its still in business. Now they are allowed to run cars there, I don't know how that ever passed, but, its Phelps, so,,,, I started there about '60 with go-karts and progressed to bikes a few years later.

The Royal Enfield is made in Chennai India, licensed from Royal Enfield. The company makes the Royal Enfield Bullet, and other single-cylinder and twin-cylinder motorcycles. First produced in 1901, Royal Enfield is the oldest motorcycle brand in the world still in production, with the Bullet model enjoying the longest motorcycle production run of all time.

I like most all bike brands, but would seriously consider a Royal Enfield if and when I down size from my Valkyrie. Love the classic British look, plus I like simple, which they appear. Anybody watch Itchy Boots on YouTube?

The 73 Honda Elsinore 125 and 250 were motocross game changers ... Suzuki ditched the TM line of motocrossers and replaced them with the RM line to try and catch up to Honda... -Mike "I had a TM..."
