I locked my trunk for the first time in a long time today. Now the latch release on bottom doesn't work. Only the key will open the trunk. What is the simplest way to access that latch area?? I don't want to remove too much if I don't have to....Probably just a cable adjustment....Thanks.

You have to unlock it for that latch to the work.

The same thing happened to me.
Only took a few days to figure it out (big forehead smack).
It's a truck, but different from every car trunk you ever had.

Is your slot facing sideways or straight up and down. Been awhile since I’ve had an interstate but I’m thinking straight up and down is locked. Then you would turn the key counter clockwise to use the key to unlock it. Turn the key clockwise as far as it goes and it should be unlocked so the lever will work.

With the slot vertical, turn the key counter clockwise (about 10 oclock) and the lock will pop open, now turn the key clock wise to the 3 oclock (Horizontal) position and the latch lever under the trunk will work again. It does not work if the key is in the verical (locked) position.

Sorry I wasn't more clear. When you lock it, it stays locked (once closed). And you have to return the key back to the unlocked position for the underneath lever to work again. Not intuitive at all.

I had mine torn apart figuring I'd find a broken cable, surprise!!

It's always easier reading the owners manual on things like this. The trunk, saddle bags, side covers, radio, seat release, etc....
