NASA launched the Perseverance rover to Mars on-time from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in a historic mission that will bring back samples from Mars to Earth.

News I watch showed the Perseverance is packing a small Helicopter. Wonder how you get enough lift in such a thin atmosphere.

and go a whole lot faster than in our thick atmosphere...

i heard the drones on earth go around 4-600 RPM. the one they brought with them does something like 2400 to 2600 RPM! it's supposed to fly ahead of the rover and report if the path is clear or not.

IIRC, the news report I heard said that Mars' atmosphere has a density of about 1% of Earth's. If that is true, those blades are going to have to really spin to develop any lift. That also might help explain why storms don't seem to move over the planet like they do on our rock.
