Saw an ad for an estate auction in far North Texas this morning, about 120 miles from home. Casually mentioned it to the spousal unit yesterday and she actually was excited about some of the things in it, so I raided my piggy bank, we got up early this morning and off we went...

The main things I was interested in were these... I was really hoping folks would turn their nose up at 22 year old motorcycles and I could steal 'em, but alas, the bidding on both went above my limits... His and hers it seems, the bikes both had 27k miles, were within 100 miles of each other, and were only a few numbers different on the VINs...

They'd been sitting for at least 3 years, but both fired right up once fresh gas and a fresh battery were given to them. The blue and ivory went for nearly $4k though. A good deal to the right person, but out of my "Looking for a steal" budget.

The maroon and Ivory I think ended up going for $2600.... I NEARLY jumped in on that one (Heck, how much do Cobra light bars go for, on their own?) but had just blown my budget on the spousal unit's new toy:

Also bought a box of random motorcycle parts for $100.... So far that I can tell looks like a brand new Interstate speedo/tach part (Yay! Mine's kinda crunchy), some seats, bunch of Kurakyn highway pegs of carious types, a Utopia back rest (Just the backrest) and who knows what all else...

So that was my day... Hope ya'll are having great days too!

That looked like fun and the bikes went pretty cheap.  cooldude

Any idea on who bought what.   I have a friend that indicated he was trying to go to that auction.

A gentleman from Oklahoma purchased the blue and ivory, we chatted a bit and became friends... (He's replacing his Interstate with the blue ivory, I might be adding his Interstate to me stable if our numbers can line up and my finances recover from the spousal unit's new toy...

Honda Silverwing 600.... Little smaller, but..... Honda... Smiley

(The Burgman are fine bikes too!)

Not at this one, but the auctioneer mentioned that the auction next weekend will have tons of 'em, but they can't list those details online or people get worked up about it...

Got any idea where in Oklahoma the buyer is from? Looking for some Valk riding partners in the Sooner state.

2600 would have been pushing it to NOT pass up, still a steal if only 27K miles on it.

about 7 years ago I went to an auction that had a VAlk tourer I wanted thinking hey if 2500 it is mine.  Bidding started real low and put my bid in up to 2K then went thru the roof sold for 4K had 40K plus miles on it and been sitting for a very very long time needed some work another 1K into it am sure.  Whomever wanted it for 4K at a farm auction in the middle of nowhere is beyond me.   It did run nice fired right up and idled just fine at least the few yards it was driven out of the shed.

Most auctions I go to the 1 or 2 things I would bid on go for way more than they are worth to get a good deal on.    One very nice big old rototiller name brand cannot remember the name but a big but old unit went for 700 bucks NO thanks was hoping for 250-300 bucks tops.  that is nuts IMO
Was really too big for my small garden anyways about 6' wide by 60 feet long runs along my backyard

I think he said Ardmore area...

I was very tempted, but I'm on the prowl for a steal of a deal on a nice condition Interstate, not another Standard, so I resisted...

...when I started telling the spousal unit the going rates for some of the unobtanium farkles on the maroon and ivory she berated me for NOT bidding higher on it...

Spousal unit got mad at me for NOT buying a 3rd Valkyrie...... I had to mark that date down in the calendar!

yah,  I know the spousal unit would never say go buy a 3rd Valkyrie now, so you got lucky on hearing that for sure.

She will like that honda silverwing anyways better being lighter, plenty enough oomph, more storage, and still go anywhere and get 55 mpg vs. on the valks 35 or so.    IMO the silverwing looks sportier vs. the burgman 650 but burgman 650 is nice also just more bubbly looking,  more wind protection and tad bit more storage/bigger seating area for 2-up.    IN terms of performance I bet they pretty similar.

No, she's convinced that the Interstates are way harder to ride (Which is interested, since she's never tried riding one) and wants to stick to the Tourized Standard.....

having both a tourer and I/S,  I would think if anything in the top trunk would throw her more off some handling it.  I think us being over 200lbs. vs. her say 130 lbs. or so makes a huge difference but what do I know I have never been since probably age 10 under 130lbs.     2funny

I gotta give her credit though a 800 lb. cycle age 17 is pretty amazing despite even her few fall downs.  If I was her either male or female I would be hesitant on riding such a large cycle vs. something 750cc or so say 550lbs. tops.  There are always a few on craigslist but the mid to late 1990's honda 750cc magnas are a very good cycle for both beginners and experienced riders alike.  NOT for you Serk since over 6 feet tall you would not fit on it has a lower seat height than you would like and seat not far enough back for you, but Kali am 110% positive would LOVE it handles well and plenty fast enough to keep up with our big Valks and only like 540lbs. or so.  PLus,  for you, not break the bank around 2K to 2200 or so for a very nice used one around 20K miles or so.  I prefer the black/chrome one but the red/orange and black is also sharp looking.

Perhaps sometime in the future you could SuperValk your Istate so you could take off the trunk and give her a try at it.  Honestly it doesn't make that much difference but the sight of it to some is rather intimidating.

... what do I know ...

Wow!  That was deep and appropriate.  I have waded through a lot of mangled grammar and random thought devastation to at last read that.   Smiley

How tall is she? I would guess about 5' 14"? A little tall for a cruiser.

Yah, that's the catch, she's not short herself and is indeed 5'14" (6'2" for you metric folks...)

Is she interested in getting her own bike? Does she like to ride a lot?

Yeah, she'd love one of her own, tried to get us to buy her a pink Ninja once but I veto'ed everything about that one.

She's not in a rush, she just started her first "real" job last week, so will be a while till she has the finances to buy anything... (Ride operator at Six Flags...)

Those prices are a shame.  Worn-out Harleys sell for twice that amount.  My nice 2003 has the same value as a Honda Monkey.   I see new bikes, but I'll keep riding what I have.  And, take care of the splines.
