Sometimes ya just gotta go...

Winter Springs, FL - Occasionally...

« on: August 07, 2020, 07:01:59 AM »

Writers certainly do enjoy writing... and for many different reasons, of course. Clearly, it is a good way to chronicle events and their details for later reading, reminding, and remembering. Making a written record ‘documents’ an event, thereby keeping most writers reasonably honest! Knowing I'll be reading all of my own stuff again later, I'm inclined to avoid straying too far from actual facts because... well, none of us wants to be exposed as a fraud or chronic embellisher. Since we can't pull the wool over our own eyes very easily, I, at least, need to be accurate, so I can minimize any twinges of guilt or any face-reddening embarrassment later...

I tend to get wordy. Yep, I suppose it has partly to do with my pleasure in finding that I can actually type! Man, these smart boxes/laptops have brought out something within myself and allowed me to play at will! It, accordingly, also allows me to make my point... to say all I intend to put out there without interruption about whatever it is that I'm thinking about. Nope, no sharp-elbowed barging-in or 'hijacking' of the 'conversation' by others who also have a need to express themselves… those who just jump right in and take over. We all are guilty of that sometimes during oral conversations, writing avoids that social awkwardness...

When writing, focus is sharpened and directed like a laser beam upon a specific topic, resulting in detail being recalled or dredged up that probably wouldn't have come to mind otherwise. All of that stimulates thought... For this writer anyway, points can be dissected, looked at from different angles, pondered in new ways, and entirely different takes can be considered. In other words, writing things down encourages us to more closely examine new bits of information and to reanalyze previously 'settled' matters... to even, on occasion, change our own view and/or opinion through consideration of something in a different or novel context. Similarly, it can also sometimes aid in general problem solving.

Writing can be therapeutic. Yep, it can be downright good for what ails us… and, it can actually help lift our spirits out of the doldrums! As an illustration, sometimes when I'm feeling listless, lost, or bewildered, I'll often just start to write about some subject... any subject... like I'm doing here right now. The impetus for this exercise has been that I have plans for this weekend, but absolutely nothing in-mind for anything afterward.

Already I'm feeling quite good about that prospect. Simply bringing that 'dilemma' to the surface has made me begin thinking of what had seemed like a sad malaise into thoughts of a new opportunity for something wonderful but totally unexpected to pop-up! It has redirected my thinking from a melancholy sense of being lost into a joyous feeling of excited anticipation of new but as yet unknown adventures to come! Instead of a nagging minor anxiety from dreading all the uncertainty and unknowns at the end of the next event, I'm now eagerly awaiting it... Mission accomplished!!! Yep, I do like to write…

And I was thinkin' I'd just cruise for a while
A fork in the road brought a new episode
Don't you know...

Conform, go crazy, or ride a motorcycle...
