The NYPD, Mayor Bill de Blasio, judges, local politicians, and criminologists all have varying theories on what is propelling the rise.

Mr. de Blasio said the rise in violence was fueled by ... a backlog in the state court system.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea thinks its that they're prohibited from deterring the carrying
of illegal guns, the elimination of bail and the mass release of prisoners from Rikers Island.

My guess: they'll be getting rid of Dermot Shea, his thinking is not mainstream...

I believe just about everyone in such a position, definately the Chief, works at the mayors discretion.

A statement like that coming from william warren [ aka de blasio] is typical. That man is just plain incompetent.

         Can you think of Anyone Better than the Cops on the front lines who deal with the "stuff" every day that might have a better insight to what Actually goes on in the streets? My thinkin here is that d b seein what he Wants to see and ignores everything else that do NOT fit his thought process. And to answer my first question-NO me neither. RIDE SAFE.

I don't know about that - the Chief of the KCMO PD DOES NOT report to the Mayor of KCMO. In fact, there is no local oversight of the KCMO PD (i.e. done by local residents of KCMO).

I was also assuming Blue Bloods as well, but - we could be wrong and that IS the actual truth. Then again - it may not be. It would take a local expert who knows to answer this definitively (oh OSS (or other New Yorkers) - we're calling you ).
