Leaving Saturday for La Feria (Harlingen). Hope it's warm down there next week. The Valk's loaded and ready. Now if the next blizzard will just let us out of here. I had hoped to hit the hill country or Big bend, but the trip got cut short so I'll just have to settle for the valley for a few days. Tried to post a picture, but can't remember my photostash password and there seems to be no way to find it. Any ideas?

I grew up in McAllen. La Feria is part of my old stomping grounds. Can't imagine why you would be going there this time of year. Watch your speed in that town, it is a known speed trap. You are close enough to South Padre Island, so plan a trip there and eat at Blackbeard's. There are a lot of good places to eat, but I haven't been down there in a while to tell you anything other than Blackbeard's.

La Feria is where my in-laws winter. It would not be my first choice. Still, the weather's got to be better than here. Now I'm just hoping the coming storm doesn't bury us and delay our Saturday departure. I really wanted to ride to big bend or the hill country, but time is not going to allow it. I've packed my Aerostich and snowmobile suit, so I should be covered for whatever happens. I've also left the grip heaters on. One year, it was in the upper 30's and low 40's the whole time we were there. We still rode!! Beats riding in snow any day.

Well if the coastal riding bores you ride over to Falcon reservoir. When I was there 3 years ago you could cross over into Mexico without seeing the Mexican border guards. You will meet ouor guys coming back. You can ride to the middle of the dam and be in Mexico, the border guards are about 4 miles more into Mexico.
A decent ride regardless from Weslaco area.

There's no doubt the riding down there is boring, but it's better than the riding around here right now. I'll just stick to the side roads and enjoy the ride anyway. I love curves and hills, neither of which exist down there. I'm sure I'll make it to the reservoir, as well as S. Padre and Boca Chica. Maybe even a run up to Corpus. Too bad Mexico's such a mess lately, I'd love to ride to Monterry. But with the shoot out's lately in Nuevo Progresso, I believe I'll pass.
