I got out of character for my self today. Normally I wash my bike occasionally,.....a few times a year.......outside in the driveway with just the saddle off. I never clean anything deeper unless it is to keep dirt out of the engine/transmission. But today I had the saddle bags and rear wheel removed and a cleaning urge overtook me. Good time, I thought, to clean some parts that are very hard to get to when the wheel and bags are on. Funny thing, I feel pretty good to have the swing arm, final drive, and full length of the exhaust cans cleaned up a bit. Who would have thought I would clean things up just because I had the wheel out to check bearings and brakes? I would never have thought that! Bigwolf

I wish I'd get that kind of motivation more frequently.... Especially the mechanical side, the cleaning is nice, but I've just gotten to where I dread grabbing a wrench and aiming it at my Valks...

Looks good Jerry ! I like your use of the chain. I'm going to steal that, I've been using a ratchet strap. I assume you are using the floor jack to raise the tire up ? The Jack I use has a small cup, and I struggle with keeping the tire balanced on it. I've been thinking of welding on a curved larger surface.

Yes, I like the chain too. It’s simple and solid and the Clovis I use at the upper shock mount makes it adjustable. I too struggle to keep the tire centered on that small jack. But I do get the job done this way and I don’t too much mind pulling the wheel often enough to be assured splines are all in good shape. Jerry O2S, that is an interesting way to think of that chore! But I don’t get the finger wave anymore,.....nothing there to be checked anymore. Jerry

Careful...the regular cleaning will become addictive. I've always been a regular clean & polish guy with my bikes, but with the Valk over the past 19 years I've stepped up my game even more...inspired perhaps by others on here who were/are at a higher level in this regard. There's just so much to look good on these bikes when clean, and it's a great way to find little issues that need attention. If you're going to develop a new habit, this is a good one to have

I too think the chain is cool because it’s adjustable. To attach my tool (the metal bar) I just sit on the floor with my legs under the rear wheel. Then remove the left shock and raise the wheel and swing arm with my knees while leaving my hands free to attach the devise.
