Of course, this assumes you give a damn about your kids, grandkids and future generations or, this nation as a whole.

Unfortunately for future offspring, very few are willing to bite the bullet to start reducing the debt and no one on the Liberal side wants to stop all the free social entitlements.
I look at those numbers and to be honest, they scare the hell out of me.

It's not just scary. It's disgusting ! There is one thing for sure though. Everyone has played a part in this disgust. Conservatives have much "blood on their hands" also.

Please enlighten me.   I'm not about to suggest there isn't enough blame to go around but, generally speaking, which side of the aisle offers the most give away dollars?   I'll fully agree that most Conservatives support defense spending, where else?

My whole point is, deficit spending must be reduced or, your kids, grandkids and on will be learning Chinese in school.

Just a cursory look at the history of Republicans in power of the presidency, congress would show that BOTH parties are equally guilty of spending money we don't have.

Rather than play a "Blame Game", let's do something about it.
We need to reduce spending across the board.
Some will not agree and I'd have a hard time decreasing our military budget but, am willing for that budget to take it's fair share of the cuts.

Social Entitlements need to be seriously reduced.   Too many ride in that wagon and don't pull their share of the weight/responsibility.

Corporation taxes should be eliminated, Corporations don't pay taxes, they pass those "expenses" on to the consumer so why do we even bother doing that?

I'll suggest a flat rate tax system be put in place, everyone should pay their fair share.   I'm not qualified to suggest what that percent of income should be but, it should be applied across the whole population, rich, poor, anyone and everyone in the middle.

Lots of other thoughts on this but, very few care.

Rams you bring up a Lot of GOOD points. Many of us here KNOW what the problems are. Seems to me deception central has NO oversight in place. I asked on the first "stimulus" payments-Where in the heck is that money coming from? Answer-yet MORE deficit spending. When I was still in the work force and purchasing "things" on time payments IF I got too far behind lending institution would either foreclose or repossess. When gubmint gits too far behind they wanna tax their way outa debt they created! A beast that Truly feeds on itself. Term limits. NO MORE free lifetime care after a stint in deception central. If a project or something exceeds 5 mil put it to a Nation Wide vote. sens and reps git EXACTLY one and ONLY One free trip a year. And no longer than 2 weeks. After 2 weeks and other trips desired They foot their own freight. Take away their Cadillacs and Lincolns unless they OWN them let them ride in gubmint pool chevys and fords. And should they Insist on screwing up give em a yugo. I can think of other things but y'all git the drift. RIDE SAFE.

If only these wise words weren't true:

“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we'll ever see on this earth!”

Declare bankruptcy, wipe out the debt, start over. No more deficit spending, stick to a budget, At the end of the budget is all the politicians salaries, entitlements, staff and perks. You don't stay in budget, you don't get paid.

No more deficit spending, stick to a budget, At the end of the budget is all the politicians salaries, entitlements, staff and perks. You don't stay in budget, you don't get paid.

I almost agree but I'd start with paying off our debt.   It won't be easy or fun but, I don't wish to leave future generations with our mistakes.   Congress takes care of itself and it's members first, that needs to be changed.

In principal, I agree, in reality, the debt is currently sitting at $214,322 per taxpayer.

That's not getting paid off.

Ever.

Fair enough.

The first step though - we HAVE to stop breeding more elephants!!!

Politicians decided they could raid that years ago.
I believe a politicians salary should be tied to SS. Very quickly SS will turn into one of the more prosperous funds out there!

Unfortunately for future offspring, very few are willing to bite the bullet to start reducing the debt and no one on the Liberal side wants to stop all the free social entitlements.
I look at those numbers and to be honest, they scare the hell out of me.

Rams
It's not just scary. It's disgusting ! There is one thing for sure though. Everyone has played a part in this disgust. Conservatives have much "blood on their hands" also.

Please enlighten me.   I'm not about to suggest there isn't enough blame to go around but, generally speaking, which side of the aisle offers the most give away dollars?   I'll fully agree that most Conservatives support defense spending, where else?

My whole point is, deficit spending must be reduced or, your kids, grandkids and on will be learning Chinese in school.

Rams

Are we talking about social programs, or corporate welfare?

Because one is constantly under attack, the other, not so much.

Declare bankruptcy, wipe out the debt, start over.

Well, now's the time. If there's anything he's good at, it's bankruptcy.

He's only got a few months left.

The national debt is really owed to the Federal Reserve, what if there was no more Federal Reserve?

Since he is good at it and Biden and Kamala are pretty clueless on how to save the economy or anything else for that matter,  I guess you'll be voting for Trump.

Well, since I doubt we'll agree to cut one or the other, let's start by cutting both by 75% and go from there.   Agreed?
I suppose you'll want to start with the USPS...……..  Wink

The debt is covered by bonds and other securities that are held by investors. I understand that foreign countries hold about a third of the total outstanding amount and the rest being held by domestic investors, banks, ect. So I don’t think the Federal Reserve would be the ones suffering on a default.

Whether we keep President Trump or not is not a good excuse for what is going on in Congress.
Money is being spent like crazy.   The National Debt is well past going through the roof.   We just keep passing it along to the next generation.   There will never be a time when people agree that now is the time to do something about that growing debt.
I don't believe I've ever heard of a Democrat being fiscally conservative.   Well, except for me.   uglystupid2  Correct me if I'm wrong about that.

Cutting our expenses and paying back IMHO is the right thing to do if, you (I) give a damn about how future generations make it.   So, when will it be a good time?

You are wrong. There have been many. Sam Nunn was one of my favorites. But, like I say, there have been many. It's hard to see them with your eyes closed. The only ones that have ANY credible actions at being fiscally conservative is the Congress and Executive branch during Clinton's final years. EVERY other Republican and Democratic Congress, and President has failed miserably.  (Including the present)

Well, I've been wrong before but, read again what I wrote, "I don't believe I've ever heard of a Democrat being fiscally conservative. "   We also might have different definitions of Conservatism.
If, there have been "many", they don't appear to be in Congress now.

Edited:  After doing a bit of historical research, I'm thinking definitions are the problem.   The best I could call Nunn is a moderate although, I did and do agree with some of his positions.

But, all that really doesn't matter.   The National Debt is out of control and runaway government spending is making it worse.   We need some fiscally conservative lawmakers of any party to secure future generations a decent future.

I believe a politicians salary should be tied to SS. Very quickly SS will turn into one of the more prosperous funds out there!

SS is running out of money because it was stolen by politicians for their own agendas. SS and Medicare was paid for by the people who put into the fund.
You never hear about food stamps, welfare, section 8 housing, medicaid, all the free entitlement programs that the working taxpayers pay into, on top of SS, that go to the non-working people, running out of money.

Precisely some of the entitlements that I feel should be greatly reduced.  Those not pulling their own weight need to figure it out.   The people who lived through the great depression figured it out.   Today, a lot of folks feel they are guaranteed certain benefits and rights they haven't earned.
