I'm headed for the record store to buy  a couple of traditional Irish/Scottish music CDs with some lively music on them but I don't know what bands to look for. Any advise?

Not quite what I'm looking for, but good stuff.  "Nothing To You" sounds a bit like a Robert Earl Keen song. I've have to find more Scottish fling, Irish jig kind of stuff.

One of my favorites: Clandestine http://www.clandestineceltic.com/

Any album of the Corries would do

Steve McDonald http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_McDonald_(Celtic_music)

'course these groups to tend to have a Scottish lilt to them

Altan (Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh) usually has a good mix of jig, reels and traditional music on most of their albums.
Capercaillie (Karen Matheson) does a mix of Scottish traditional and contemporary.

Are you familiar with "The Chieftains". They are the standard for traditional Irish folk music.  Take your pick of albums, they are all good.

Enjoy!

My personal favorite is the Conklin Caeli Band.  The Lead Singer, MIck Lane is up for a Grammy for playing on the Utah Phillips memorial album.

Oh, I have to admit there is an affiliation here.  The lead singer is my brother.
