Note particularly what has happened to the UK, and Russia, and other European countries.

Also note what has happened to China. It was not even ON the Top 10 list for the first 50-60 years of this chart.  But watch what happens, and how FAST it happens, once China decides to get into the automobile business..!!

We here in Canada we can thank Trudeau's failed economic policies for Canada dropping off that screen during his idiotic tenure as Prime Village Idiot.

There is no doubt that government "decisions"  have an effect on what corporations do or don't do.
I'll never understand why Unions were so infatuated with President Obama after he basically gave all those jobs to other interests/countries and then had the balls to say those jobs weren't coming back.

How much bail-out money did GM take, and not pay back, only to close how many American plants to build how many new ones in china and brazil. [ rhetorical question]. Of course that idiot knew those jobs were never coming back after he threw them away.

President Bush made of bad decision also but, if they had let GM fail, they would have reorganized and maybe have become a more efficient corporation.

Precisely my point. Another Government decision.   I really don't blame GM for taking free money but I do blame the politicians that gave it away.   GM needed to adjust their whole set of rules they operate under.   Did GM learn anything from that fiasco?   Yeah, they figured out they could get cheaper labor somewhere else.    Presidents Bush and Obama made some very bad decisions during that time frame IMHO.

Fiat now owns controlling share of what was Chrysler.   Roll Eyes   What a joke!

China took advantage when Obama tanked the economy. Nowadays, all our car manufacturing facilities are in liberal held cesspools, where people would rater ride the Govt tit than work, where crime is the norm, where they can't get a reliable workforce. Plus the threat of unrest and destruction of their facilities if they don't follow certain rules, or cater to a political and tolerant agenda.
With the economy the way it is now due to all the crap going on, it is not feasible to put the money into building new facilities in areas where they can find better conditions and reliable staffing prospects just yet.
If this election goes the right way I see a quick turnaround on things, either the govt or the citizens will finally put an end to this burn/loot/riot crap, it will be less catastrophic if the govt does it. The economy will bounce back.
Does that chart take into account that almost all the foreign cars sold in the US are also made in the US, or do those numbers go back to the parent country? We make a ton of foreign cars here.

Uhh?  How can we make foreign cars here.  If they're made in America they cannot be foreign cars.  Some of us are starting to sound a bit like Harley riders.   Wink

Well, they have Toyota, BMW, Honda, M-B, etc. name plates on them.

Foreign made parts assembled in America.

That does sound exactly like what was said by Harley enthusiasts about the Honda Valkyries with "Made in USA" stamped upon them.

am shocked CHINA shot up around 2010 so HUGE.  I knew it was big but nowhere that close to those HUGE figures.  Is a shame indeed when China rules the car mfg. the past 10+ years or so.    Thank you GM for shutting down US plants all over the US and making crap in China.

If I see an engine or car made in China I will NOT buy it period.    Back in the day was bad enough had to see Mexico or Canada being built there, now China?  What a shame, so sad.

I like how in the 1960s how Japan boomed so big I would have never guessed it happened that far back was thinking early 1980s but little did I know it happened some 20 years prior to that.

People give me crap all over me and just a few others in town driving Tundras, but at least they are made in San Antonio TX and have a ton of US made parts as well in the top 10 parts made in US.    Here in chevy/ford country,   they do not know what they are missing being brainwashed for decades.  I thought the same thing until 2007 the new tundra design changed me for life, or at least so far in life.

Same as my Hyundais but all 3 were built in the United States with a lot of parts though from South Korea and US parts also.

I was surprised at how much of the Goldwings and Valkyries were made here.  They can sport the ' Made in America '.
There really aren't any more Americans vehicles, foreign companies have joined with our companies and have really made the vehicles better.  I just hate seeing the many jobs being shipped overseas. It really irritates me to see them going to china, especially on our tax dollars.

only thing we can do to stop this is to NOT buy made in China stuff and vehicles is a big one.  that could put GM out of business all over again?   Roll Eyes  After what GM did locally shutting down the long time Janesville WI plant where over a dozen people I knew worked there in 2008 I have not much faith in buying another GM vehicle.

There are so many people that won't believe that. I ask them to just open the door and take a look.
My problem with GM isn't the product, its with the company. This company has done many stupid things over the decades, this isn't their first.
I can't bring myself to buy a GM product, haven't owned one in 3 decades. That said they have made some of my favorite older vehicles. [ and I was brought up in Studebaker and Ford stores]

having worked for GM from 1990 to 1996 and visited around 1995 a week long paid training seminar flying into Detroit at GM headquarters I can say without a doubt that place was crazy insane expensive to run.    Big fancy building fully self sufficient company paid lunches 1st class for sure.  I thought for asking for some Grey Poupon and asking where Robin Leech was from Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous.  We went out with some supervisor big shot for supper and he splurged for all of us on his GM company credit card drinks food and all.   Just wish he would have came with me when I went ALONE (other guys chickened out)  crossing into Canada at the strip club called Cheetahs....  I still remember our instructor about my age at the time was super HOT talk about your HOT FOR TEACHER song.....
