The other takeaway is that black widow spider web is extremely strong. (and all spider web is pretty strong)
One of my least favorite things is to be working outside and walk through a web. I immediately do the stupid swatting can't-touch-this dance to make sure I haven't taken on any passengers.
We have black widows and brown recluse, but neither to any large populations in a well tended abode.
There was a small, lawnmower-size rotten shed in my backyard when I moved in, and I tore it down. I had to do it from the outside, as the inside had 15K thriving black widows. Using a sledge hammer, I decided a pair of long pants and a can of Raid were indicated. (shiver)
One wonders when they will get their new non-racist name.

I don't know much about snakes or spiders. (Is that a lyric from a song) A snake that size is strong enough to break free from a spider web ? And a spider is able to penetrate the scales with a paralyzing bite ?

In answer to your questions: apparently no and yes. In the song lyrics the spider comes first. "I don't like spiders and snakes ..." |

Both the snake and the spider are small, only the closeup makes them look bigger.
It could have been early chilly (or even night time) when the juvenile reptile was not warmed up full strength, but lethargic.
The web is all torn up, so maybe he almost got away. And that torn up web is still holding his full weight, suspended.
And the spider probably bit him quick (several times), before he could away.
Spiders also take down hummingbirds, who are tiny but pretty energetic.
I did a lot of investigations during my lifetime, and I enjoy it.
I could probably get a conviction of the spider. Premeditation and lying in wait. Self defense is not going to fly.

You never let spiders (and snakes) take the stand if at all possible (unless they are actually innocent, which is remarkably rare). Although, the decision to testify is always the defendant's call. Both judges and juries like to increase sentences for sworn liars. |

I would guess a mid sixties ford .
Looking at the loop of tail above the snake head.....Is that a live birth of a snake going on ? It looks like a hatchling or something on its tail.

 That is amazing to me. That looks like a frog at the snakes tail end and maybe a former meal that the spider enjoyed that lured the snake to the o'l bad spider.
