Wow. I watched the mother of Jacob Blake Jr., Julia Jackson, speaking live at a news conference just now. It was very moving. A well spoken message, brilliantly articulated -- apparently mostly off the cuff and from the heart. In my opinion every American should see this video, and contemplate upon her words. This is a good American family. While all the details of this incident aren't out what I've seen was appalling and excessive. It will never justify the resultant violence and destruction. I am sure the mother's comments will be made available before long. I'll try to find and post. Dude attacks cops, is on the ground fighting with cops, stomps away and marches to his car, opens the door, reaches into the car like he's going to grab a gun, and gets shot.
Nope.
This was 100% a good shoot.
He's lucky to be alive.
I will call out bad cops all day long when they do wrong, but when a dude fights 'em, attacks 'em, evades lawful arrest, then makes motions that look 100% like he's going to get a gun outta his car? Totally justifiable shoot...

Once they start shooting the training is to keep shooting until the threat is neutralized.... No problem with that AT ALL..... I'm a fat middle aged white boy with a concealed carry license.... If a cop tells me to STOP, I'm sure as HELL not randomly reaching into my car! If I did, I fully expect to get dropped with how many shots are required to get me to stop reaching into said car..... Good shoot. |

He had a warrant for his arrest for a number of charges including domestic violence and rape. he also had a knife in his belt. he was shot to prevent a hostage situation with his own kids. SERK is right, good shoot.

I agree with Serk 100%. So many of these police shootings would never happen if the "victims" would have simply complied with the officers orders.
I do however have compassion and feel for the family of the people that have been shot.

The cops who were involved didn’t get up that morning saying, let’s shoot someone today. The compassion for the family is limited on my part. The family, more than anyone else know Jacob. Jacob has been heading down this road for a while, and someone within the Jacobs family is the one who called the police to handle a situation that they couldn’t control. Then when the situation escalates and Jacob gets shot, it’s suddenly the fault of the police. If Jacob is a victim, it’s because of the revolving door of our justice system which builds the idea that they can’t control me. Now the lawyers have descended like the vultures they are and the residents of Kenosha are saddled with the destruction because Jacob refused to be controlled by what were once called peace officers.
I have a nephew who suffered from a form of this kind of thinking and his family were his enablers. I tried to use him in my remodeling business and teach him some skills and maybe improve his attitude in general. I listened to him and saw his thought processes and I said to myself, this kid, still a teenager who never graduated from high school, is going to end up in jail. Sure enough, he was just released from a 5 year sentence this year. I hope he can turn his life around, but his family will be an important part of that going forward. I hope they are up to the challenge.

Yeah - I had my own challenge on that one. He has made it clear he never wants to speak to me or my wife ever again, and I'm inclined to oblige him that. MIL has repeatedly stated that he won't ever come back to live here while I'm here. AFAIC he is in for a "forever" wait. He is going to have to make some changes, and I'm not sure he wants to put out the effort.

Seen it far too many times where the vid shows the perp turn into a victim cuz of their very own stupidity. How in the heck can it be the L E Os fault when the dufus in question Refuses to follow the L E Os orders? Learned early on Listen to What the L E O tells you. I have to agree with what most of you have said, listening to LEO’s is vital especially in a situation like this.
My issue with this is, they shot him 7 times in the back...at close range too. If they’re trained to keep firing until the situation is resolved, the at close of a range, one shot to the back of the head would have been just as “justified” and the situation would have been resolved with less gunfire.
When he approaches his car door cops are a couple feet from him, he announced (from what I heard) he had a gun in the car and was going to get it.
Why even let him get to the car door let alone open it and reach inside? Tackle him, grab him by the shirt and get him on the ground, grab a head of hair or even by the ears and get him on the ground.

Jacob Blake Jr is no saint. What else are the parents going to say. This guy has a history of armed criminal activity. And he tried to go to his car knowing his kids were in it. He is not only a criminal, he is a stupid criminal.

The clip shows him and 2 officers wrestling on the ground; according to reports, they unsuccessfully attempted to taze him. He gets free of the officers and heads toward his car door (stating he had a gun in there). The officers follow him with guns drawn and are ordering him to stop. He doesn't stop, he proceeds to reach into his car. I guess people think the officers should wait until the weapon is in hand; at that point he can easily shoot behind him or (worse) use his children as hostages. I'm with Serk here, justified. |

I also hadn't seen the fight with the police before the my initial post. Probably be design of the lamestream. After seeing it my opinion changed dramatically.
I still think the mother's statement was thoughtful.
