Does anyone here have the Big Bike Parts Chrome switch box housings #51-333 installed and if so, did you have any install or operation issues?  How are they holding up?    Thinking of getting these next sale if the feedback is good.  I recently installed Chrome Adjustable Levers for a Wing on my IS and they look/feel great so far.

I have them, yes you need to modify them slightly.  They are made by injection molding so the little piece inside that was the fill port needs to be ground off.  I would avoid grinding any of the edges,  if you grind any of the edges over time the base aluminum will oxidize and the chrome will flake off.  Yeah the little tab inside should have been ground off at the factory but as long as you know about it and have a Dremel or similar tool it is easy to correct.  BTW, these are made for the Std/ Tourer, not the Interstate, as the cables are routed differently on the Interstate, but that van be overcome as well.  They are not really easy to install, pulling apart the switch boxes extracting the stuff and getting it back in is a challenge.  Lots of us have done it though.  The quality is good and the finish on mine is holding up well.    I like them and I think they were worth the hassle, but then again I tore apart my Radio control switch box and chromed it and then put it back together as well and that was a lot more challenging.  Please look at the reviews 24 of them on the page that you linked , obviously your results may vary!

Nice,,....   and very nice on the I/S controls.  I was looking to put those on an I/S and noticed it appears you have them on one as well.  What was required with the cables?  I have ISO grips on already and was wondering if I will have to remove them (ruin them) to get that cover on (as someone indicated in the reviews).


Did you replace your hydraulic reservoirs or remove and chrome em (didn't see site glass).  Was thinking of getting covers for those as well maybe.... maybe.....

Oh and curious if those have the notch or nub that holds it in place on the bars like the stock one has (a detent or something).  I will probably get them and if it turns out to be too much I will try to put em on my VTX since they are like that instead of the Valk.... but prefer em for the Valk....

I've had mine installed four years, still look like new. (I chrome polish all chrome regular) I had no problems installing. My advice, well worth it.
  You won't be able to stop there, you gotta keep going with the chrome cooldude My buddy put his on around the same time, never waxes/polishes his bike and they look it. (so does his bike) Sad

Agree with all posts (especially oyeaas) in regards to installation.   I put mine on ('98 standard) 3 years ago and love them.   You will need a dremel tool to clean up the insides so they fit well.   Be careful as you take apart the throttle housing, throttle cable was a bugger and if my memory serves me the cable end that fits into the nylon cam was a bugger to remove and then replace.   The nylon (not wanting to break it) is the bugger.   Good luck.    Really sets off the Kuryaken Grips.

ditto...ditto...ditto...what ALL have said in ALL of these posts. have them on my 97 Tourer...been on there since....oh...about 99' or 2000 i think? Yes, PIA to put on....had a friend come over with dremmel tool...and make things fit. a pain ...to get all the little pieces in.

BUT...........Sherry does NOT have them on her 98 Tourer...and when you look at the two bikes sitting side by side....especially since her stock ones have oxidized a bit....there is a HUGE difference! Mine look just about like the day i put em' on. Well worth it for the looks.........but definitely kind of pain to put on .......

Cables have to be rerouted.




I do not remember having to remove the grip.

The Chrome Reservoirs are the originals that I pulled off, stripped down and sent off to be chromed, the chrome shop filled the sight glass holes.

The tab Oyeaa talks about is there for other Honda model bikes that use the same controller, like the Shadow.  It does have to be filed off for the Valkyrie.  In addition, the cables on the starter switch side have to be routed so the brake lever goes between them.  It is a very close fit but works.

Guys,

I attempted to install these today-cannot get the throttle cable from the holder on the right side grip.
Has anyone got a tip to help me out? i loosened the adjuster but the cable just wont come off the yellow holder on the throttle grip....

I attempted to install these today-cannot get the throttle cable from the holder on the right side grip.
Has anyone got a tip to help me out? i loosened the adjuster but the cable just wont come off the yellow holder on the throttle grip...

Protect the tank with a Towel.

Loosen the handlebar clamp in the middle to allow the bars to freely rotate down or shift to the left.

That should give you enough slack to remove the cables or even to slip the entire throttle grip assembly off the bar if necessary.

Many thanks for the advice. The job was completed today-what a pain in the ass though!
The turn signal switch is the only problem, over tightening of the screws causes it to stick when fully assembled.
Dremel grinding was also required on both sides...
