Hi guys
Will take possession of my 2000 Valk IS next week. Pretty excited-first time Valk owner. Just sold my 03 GW-GL1800. Hope to be posting often with lots of questions ( some will be stoopid) as I am not a wrencher of note. Can do an oil change-that's about it. Cheers and be well.

Welcome, from Agassiz. If you're ever going to be out this way, let me know and maybe we can meet up (I don't go anywhere near Greater Vancouver area if I can help it ) I've had my 1999 Interstate for over 19 years, so may be able to answer the odd question or two. Gordonv lives in Richmond, and will be able to answer a lot more questions , as will others on here. We may be few here in BC, but a lot of us have had our Valks for some time. Cheers, Mike

Hello and welcome from Surrey!
Lots of info in this forum here. Use the search function for whatever question you have and I bet it has been asked before and you find a couple of threads on the topic already. If not, always ask. There are so many guys in this forum who know every little piece of those bikes and every little trick to make it easier for us amateur wrenchers.
Congrats on the bike and post some pics when you get her.
Cheers,
Christian

Welcome from Richmond. I'm over by Costco, where about are you? You might like to add your location to your profile too. Hit me up, I've the manual, msb has my digisync, and we might be able to meet up and help you out on your bike. Mine in storage this year, still haven't even rolled it out and fired her up. I had a thread here where I listed some parts, so if you need something it might be available on replacement (you use it, then replace it). I haven't looked on the General forum lately, might wish to introduce yourself there too. Tech questions/info in that forum, search first, and see if your question has been asked. Picture when you get your ride is always nice. Did you ride with the GWRRA guys? I used to meet up with Chapter A on Tuesday night.

Thanks for the welcome guys. I'm in the Steveston area-No 2 and Steveston Hwy. Hope to meet up with you guys one of these fine days. I did just learn from the seller ( he sent me a copy of the insurance papers) that he last rode the bike in 2015, but " drained the carbs" etc when the bike was stored. He swears the bike is running like a top and idling normally-what are the chances that the carbs need work ? The bike is coming from Cranbrook,BC-purchased sight unseen apart from pics-the seller is riding the bike down to me on Tues. next week-so guess he is confident he's going to make it !! Anyway holding thumbs bike is in decent shape. Still haven't quite figured out how to post a pic-thought was under " additional options" tab but do not see any attachment options there.

Hi, PostImage works well for adding photos, go to their site and you can get a free account. I guess with the age of this site it doesn't have all the whizbang features newer sites have. Lots of info and knowledge here. Here is a link to parts fiches by year etc. with Canadian prices https://www.bike-parts-honda.ca/Get a downloaded service manual on this page, download the zip and extract the manual http://www.valkyrienorway.com/download.htmlIf he runs it down from Cranbrook then it will have a couple of tanks of fresh gas through it on the way. Read up on hydraulic lock and the "thunk" then don't hit the start button again. I recently found a Canadian source for what people call the DanMarc valve that lots install as a "safeguard" on the fuel system they have a store in Burnaby that stocks the valves or can get them. https://www.nee.ca/en/Enjoy your bike.

I've set my postimage.org account up with folders. One I labeled Forum, where I place all my pictures that I post to forums, so I don't delete a picture that might show a how-to work on it. We all lost the previous free image host site, so there are a lot of old posts with missing pictures. If this link works, something like this. You can move backwards and see the chapters. https://postimg.cc/gallery/DwtLpMQI suspect the only thing you'll most likely need about the carbs, is a can of Berrymans B12. I've a spare one you can have. Also it was recommended to run Chevron fuel through your bike, because of the Techron. That should also clean out the carbs a little, and is my gas station of 1st choice. Ask the PO about the rear end maintenance, when was it last done and by who. Are you going to insure it when you get it home? We could meet up, also like Mike mentioned, have a chat about what you want to know about it. Teach you the radio controls. I'll see if you have an email link posted, and send the PDF copy of the 6 pages of the owners manual for the radio. If you haven't, click on my ling for my email, and send me an email, and I'll reply back with the pages.

Was told this past weekend in a random conversation that Shell gas here on the Island has no alcohol in it, is said to come up from Washington State. I think there is lots of gas in BC from down there, everytime they have a refinery maintenance shut it seems to bump our gas price.

Yup, usually a fairly large increase. But with demand down this year, the price has been fairly stable. I think it usually happens in Aug too. I'm not scared of the alcohol in the gas, but I know there are a lot that are.

Thanks for welcome-hope to see you guys on the road. Not sure it's going to be this season, which is rapidly drawing to a close-but hopefully next we can meet up and get in some decent rides. Cheers !
