I sure hope my dear old Valk doesn't get too jealous. This past weekend I was surprised by the Mrs with an early birthday present...the 1978 GL1000kz that I'd looked at 4 months or so ago with the very vague thought of adding an older but fully rideable second bike that I could get Collector status on. I've always liked the 70's naked Wings. Purchased from a lifelong MC mechanic and collector not too far away, the new ride's in excellent overall original condition with only 65,000 km (40 k miles)...near mint paint and with only a few small spots where chrome is pitting. Newly re-covered seat, and brakes, stator, points/plugs, tires, battery, timing belt, carb rebuild, etc all new/done within the last year and fully up to date service-wise...she's ready to ride. Came with a newer shield  and Honda rack, top and side bags which I've removed.
I probably wouldn't have purchased it for myself as I've never grown tired of hopping on the Valk over the past 19 years, but I have to admit I'm kinda looking forward to riding and tinkering with this beauty.
Now that I think back, it was the Mrs who convinced me to finally get off my a** and purchase the Valk when I was balking way back when.  cooldude cooldude

Got her insured today and took her out for her (my) first good ride this evening... just under 100 km up and around Harrison Lake and through our little town and farmlands of Agassiz and Rosedale. What a blast to ride... been a while since I've been on something that  "small". Everything feels and works good... it'll be a fun addition for sure!
I've always joked about not making my Valk jealous when thinking about adding another bike... wouldn't you know it though, I actually did feel a little pang of guilt as I was bolting the plate on the Wing and suiting up while it sat right next to the Valk. After almost 40 years of marriage and not knowing me as one to get sentimental about much of anything, the Mrs had a real good laugh when I couldn't help but give the Valk a gentle pet on the fairing and a few kind words  as I wheeled the Wing out of the garage  Grin Wink

Nice!

Seeing the convertible as well, you sure have a lot of sunshine toys for someone who lives in the frozen tundra snowed in 6 months out of the year! Cheesy

Lol...you must be thinking of my friend Beardo in SK and the rest of the Canucks East of us here in beautiful SW BC. 2-3 months hard Winter here tops, and the aforementioned Beardo, etc would scoff at my description of those few months as "hard". The '92 Miata was the Mrs's 50th bday present (not allowed to say how long ago that was Wink ). It's her good-weather ride...haven't had the top up in years.

Yeah, she’s in fantastic shape. Those are 2 stunning bikes right there.

And yeah, Serk...BC’ers complaining about winter would be like me complaining to you guys about my couple of days of 95 degree F summer days as too hot...which it is to me.

When I saw this pic this morning I thought, what an ugly set of bags and trunk ! But, it's really growing on me. I don't remember them from back in the day. But they are very utilitarian. Honda has skillfully built the market for long distance bikes. And it really started with this bike. (I really like the color also)

Seems I recall those bags are/were made by Samsonite, might be wrong. I believe they can also be swapped around....fit in any spot on the rack, trunk or saddlebag position. I had an oldie many years ago fullty dressed out and removed all of it then put all the extras up for sale. Made enough to pay for the bike. Very nice looking ride indeed.  cooldude

Those old Wings are cool.
There's one just down the street from me but nowhere near the shape of yours.

They are HondaLine...kinda look like Samsonite luggage, so perhaps manufacturered by them.  You're right, they are all interchangeable...only difference is two of them have the reflectors. I think I'm gonna just sell the whole bag/top box setup, can't see me using them.

Even if you never use them, consider that keeping the bags may make that bike worth more as a collector than you can get for them alone.  If you have the space.  And if you eventually decide to sell (like when you hit 100).

I will have to point this out to my wife on how to keep a husband happy.  Happy husband, happy life.  Not quite the same ring I guess.  Congrats what a great gift and beautiful bikes.  I too would keep the luggage as it must be hard to come by and make the bike more valuable.

I wouldn't mind finding an original Gold Wing like that in that kind of shape. Good find !
