I was working on an industrial building in LaCrosse WI several years ago putting in surveillance cameras and we used a single person boom lift with a 50’ lift.  The roof was 35’ high, we were done for the day and of course it was Friday, Chuck made it down, then it was Randy’s turn.  He made it five feet away from the roof, and yep, you guessed it!  The lift ran out of gas!!!  It was hilarious!  It took Chuck an hour to get to a hardware store, buy a gas can, then find a station for gas!

So the moral of the story, make sure you’ve got gas!!

Yep. They'll lift the truck off the ground. Unrestricted 350 pounds on the boom (any extension/orientation) with the outriggers down. Higher weights with restricted directions/extensions.

Not intending to, but it's nice to keep options open so I'd love the help!

a long time ago in my early years with the former South Central Bell i worked from a bucket a few years. my dept got the culls from the splicers when they got new ones. i had one without the elbow in the center. it lifted from right behind the truck cab and then the boom telescoped in and out. lots of times the boom motor would not restart if i turned it off, if it wasn't at a steep angle i would shimmy down the boom. did that one day and went to lunch accross the street, when i came back a guy (scb manager) was at the truck looking up at the bucket and hollering. i asked him what he was doing and he said he thinks maybe the worker passed out. had a little laugh, but said no, i had gone to lunch.
enjoy it Daniel, good equipment when used to their potential.

When I worked in a different area on the plant I was trained to use one of these.  It was a blast.  Few times we could've just gotten a taller ladder but, NAH, let's get the bucket truck!

It was even older than this one.  The bucket was over the cab when in the down position.  It will be a real handy tool for you.

Barely.

350 is also the unrestricted movement with the feet down. There are higher loads for certain orientations. A big ol list of 'em.

That'll do.

Make sure to get a good safety harness, and use it. I took a spill triming trees and would not be here if not for that harness.

Hey Daniel. Glad to see you're up to something.

Your travel stories that I read back in 2005 got me hooked on wanting a Valk. My dream of owning one finally came true in August of this year.

One of my hobbies is DIY projects, so I look forward to reading about your latest endeavor. Best of luck!!!

BTW, my wife and I want to build a small cottage on a local lake here in Georgia. Hopefully I can borrow from some of your ideas. cooldude

Congratulations!

I think I may have more than my share going on...remodeling a 100+ year old house should have been enough...but what the heck. A 120+ year old Gothic debatable commercial building should be fun!

The house is here: http://theoldvictorian.com

I'm sure I'll put up something for the building...it's gonna be my business someday soon...the story of its creation might help promote it eventually.

AND I AM still working on two more books...Stormrider and the 5th in the Life Is a Road series

BTW, my wife and I want to build a small cottage on a local lake here in Georgia. Hopefully I can borrow from some of your ideas. cooldude

Multiply any time estimate you come up with by three. Seems to work for me nowadays (and I used to do this stuff for a living!)  Undecided

I HIGHLY recommend it though.

There are many nowadays that are somehow proud of the fact that they can't turn a screwdriver...the trend now is to insist that everybody let a "professional" do everything for them. I've no idea why. We NEED people that can tackle just about anything they set their minds to.

Daniel, I have this hanging in my High School Classroom:
A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects.

Cool.  A very handy rig, with a flat bed ta boot.
Stay away from high voltage lines.
350#?  That include weight of person in bucket?
Good score.

Oh I will. But it is an insulated boom.

Yep when moving people. 350 pounds at any angle, rotation, or extension.

More if in-line with the truck.

Considerably more if no person in the bucket (material handling). There are lower controls as well.

Of course, now I've gotta tell the wife she bought me a left-handed fargle-snorker for Christmas. She's been out of town and doesn't know...

Sounds like just the ticket for your needs.  Should be a data plate on there somewhere representing the maximum load with varying degrees of extension.  Insulated boom is good.  Just keep it clean.  Grit and grime build up can still conduct.  Keep it level as possible.  Can't handle much of a degree of un-level before your day goes south.   Looks like a handy rig.  Didn't I read someplace years ago that you were working on a sail boat?  Is that still in the works, or is it afloat someplace.

Life and plans changed...so it's still in the field. I'm going to scrap it soon if I don't find a buyer.
