Hi all
Just got bike yesterday. Trying to hook up a pigtail to battery for charging. Can't remove the seat.
I found the ignition goodie towards the right of the petcock and turned clockwise. The front of the seat
lifts up, but the back ( passenger seat) seems anchored fast. How do I fix this ?
Cheers and thanks.

This. ^^^^ unless someone put on an aftermarket seat and it could have a bolt in the rear fender.

If the passenger hand strap band is still on, you have to remove that first.

THIS. And lube that seat release lock a little bit with either dry graphite or wet the key with W D 40. Welcome. RIDE SAFE.

Hi Colin, did you get an owners manual with your IS?
I'll need to look my collection over, whether or not I have an extra one or not. Either way, you can borrow mine to read over about the bike, if you would like?

Gord hi
I did get an owners manual with the bike...found the seat removal section...still struggling to remove the seat. Perhaps missing something-will revisit. When I googled how to remove seat-there was something about an allen bolt needing to be removed from back of pillion seat on an IS -no reference to that in the manual. Went for a short spin today-no fun riding with all the smoke around-but loving the bike !

there is no bolt on the back of a stock i/s seat. it has a tang that slides threw a bracket under the trunk. nothing holding it. it also has tangs that slide into brackets under the front of the rear seat. if your trying to pull up on that seat to far before sliding it forward i think you binding it in those holders. i'm assuming you do have the stock one peice seat and not an after market seat which might have a bolt in the rear.

Hi all
Got it ! actually a piece of cake, once you turn the key as far clockwise as it will go...think initially I wasn't turning it all the way. Up and forward and it came off-no prob. Thanks to all for the input. Cheers.

do not feel bad, I got my 2001 VAlk I/S about 10+ or so years ago and was mid November so chilly out was not used much been sitting long while. I could not figure out why the darn cycle would not start having choke lever pushed down. Came on this board and walla, push HARDER, MUCH HARDER down on the choke lever on handlebars and fired right up FULL choke. That extra 1/2 inch down is choke the rest is not much help starting it in cold weather when bike is cold. I was so frustrated those 1st few weeks I was about read to sell the darn thing.
